AL All-Stars announced

NEW YORK (AP)- First baseman Rod Carew,
chosen for the 13th consecutive year, heads four
California Angels named yesterday to the American
League starting team for the 1982 All-Star Game in
Montreal.
Joining Carew in the AL starting lineup from
California are second baseman Bobby Grich and out-
fielders Reggie Jackson and Fred Lynn.
THE OTHER AL starters will be third baseman
George Brett of Kansas City, outfielder Rickey Hen-
derson of Oakland, shortstop Robin Yount of
Milwaukee and catcher Carlton Fisk of the Chicago
White Sox, who received the most votes in the com-
puterized fan balloting sponsored by Gillette.

Fisk, chosen to start for the seventh time and third
year in a row, finished with a total of 2,625,650 votes,
ahead of Brett's 2,545,560. Carew's 2,165,296 was third
in the total vote and Yount finished fourth with
2,014,651, overtaking Bucky Dent of the New York
Yankees, who had led the shortstop balloting until the
final weekend. Dent finished with 1,464,603, some
550,000 votes behind Yount.
Jackson led all outfielders with 1,782,745 votes.
Henderson, who is setting a blistering stolen base
pace, was second with 1,452,601, followed by Lynn
with 1,353,890, just 3,359 votes ahead of New York's
Dave Winfield, who finished fourth.
OTHER PLAYERS polling more than 1 million

votes were Milwaukee catcher Ted Simmons
(1,313,800), first basemen Carl Yastrzemski of Boston
(2,013,342) and Cecil Cooper of Milwaukee (1,196,736),
second basemen Willie Randolph of New York
(1,406,873) and Frank White of Kansas City
(1,187,085), third basemen Toby Harrah of Cleveland
(1,395,489) and Graig Nettles of New York (1,291,478)
and outfielders Jim Rice of Boston (1,075,232) and
Ben Oglivie of Milwaukee (1,014,304).
The pitching staff and remaining members of the
28-man AL team will be chosen by the league office
and Oakland Manager Billy Martin, who will pilot the
AL Stars.
The National League starters for next Tuesday
night's game will be announced today.

DETROIT (AP)- Lance Parrish hit
two home runs and Lou Whitaker, Rick
Leach and Mike Ivie belted one each as
the Detroit Tigers defeated the Min-
nesota Twins, 11-6, last night.
Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the first
when Whitaker singled and eventually
scored on a wild pitch by Pete Redfern,
4-9. Minnesota tied the game in the
third on Dave Engle's RBI single before
the Tigers rallied for five runs in their
half of the inning beginning with
Whitaker's fifth homer of the season.
REDFERN walked four of the next
six batters, allowing Parrish to score on
the fourth walk. Lynn Jones then
singled home two runs and advanced to
third when left fielder Gary Ward's
errant throw let Chet Lemon trot home.

Leach hit his second homer of the
season with one out in the fourth and
Parrish belted a solo shot with two
out-his 12th-to make it 8-1 Detroit.
Fngle hit his fourth homer for Min-
nesota, a two-run shot off Detroit star-
ter Jack Morris, 9-9, in the fifth.
THE TIGERS picked up two more
runs in the sixth when Parrish belted a
two-run homer and scored their final
run of the night in the eighth on Ivie's
11th homer.
Morrison was relieved by Kevin
Saucier in the seventh after giving up
four straight hits, including a run-
scoring double by Ron Washington and
Engle's second RBI single of the night.
Kent Hrbek's groundout brought
home the third Minnesota run of the in-
ning, making it 10-6.
A's 7, Indians 3
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Dave

Lopes slammed two home runs, Rickey
Henderson scored twice after stealing
bases, and Brian Kingman won his first
game in six decisions as the Oakland
A's, ripped the Cleveland Indians 7-3,
yesterday.
Henderson, who ran his major league
leading stolen base total to 79, walked to
lead off the first inning, stole second
and came home on Dan Meyer's single
to center.
LOPES LINED his fourth homer of
the year into the left field stands after
Mike Heath walked in the second inning
to give Oakland a 3-0 lead.
The A's added a run in the fourth on
Wayne Gross's single, Danny Good-
win's sacrifice bunt and Heath's.single.
Cleveland's Toby Harrah smacked
his 15th homer after Miguel Dilone
singled to close the gap to 4-2 in the fif-
th.
THE A'S CAME right back in the bot-

tom of the fifth as Henderson walked
again, stole second again, and scored
on Dwayne Murphy's single to right.
Cleveland starter and loser Len
Barker, 9-5, left in the sixth inning after
the A's extended their lead to 6-2 on
Heath's single, a groundout, and Fred
Stanley's RBI single.
Lopes hit his fifth homer in the eighth
inning, a solo shot to left field, off
reliever Bud Anderson for the A's final
run.
The Indians got their final run inthe
ninth inning on a sacrifice fly by pinch-
hitter Larry Milbourne, driving in Rick
Manning who had singled.
Kingman, winless in seven starts sin-
ce being recalled from Tacoma a month
ago, won his first game since June 3,
1981, allowing only seven hits as the A's
swept the two-game series from the In-
dians. He struck out two and walked
three.
