Padres 5, Pirates 4
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Terry Ken-
nedy slugged a two-run homer and
drove in the game-winning run with a
double in the fifth inning to give the San
Diego Padres a 5-4 victory over the Pit-
tsburgh Pirates last night.
It was the fourth straight victory for
the Padres, while the Pirates' longest
winning streak of the season ended at.

PITTSBURGH scored an unearned
run in the first inning off John Curtis, 4-
3, Lee Lacy reached safely when his
grounder was mishandled by shortstop
Garry Templeton for an error. Lacy
stole second and scored on a single by
Tony Pens.
But in the Padres fourth, Kennedy
homered for the fifth time this season,
off loser Rick Rhoden, 2-6. The homer
followed a single by Sixto Lezcano.
Bill Robinson countered with a two-
run homer in the Pirates fourth after a
single by Johnny Ray. Robinson's four-
th homer of the season gave the Bucks a
3-2 lead, but the Padres took the lead for
good with a three-run fifth.'
Templeton's sacrifice'fly brought
home the first run, and Lezcano singled
home another run before scoring on
Kennedy's double over the head of
Pirates center fielder Omar Moreno.
Rhoden's solo homer in the bottom of
the fifth, his third of the season, cut the
lead to 5-4. Reliever Gary Lucas pit-
ched four innings of one-hit relief with
five strikeouts to earn his seventh save.
Reds 8, Mets 3
CINCINNATI (AP) - Ron Oester
drove in three runs and Dve Concepcion
contributed a two-run single to help
Tom Seaver win his first game in a
month as the Cincinnati Reds defeated
the New York Mets8-3 last night.
Oester's two-run single with the bases
loaded in the fourth snapped a 2-2 tie
and put the Reds ahead to stay. Con-
cepcion added a two-run single in the
sixth.
Seaver, 2-6, survived a shaky start to
win his first game since May 4. The
right-hander struck out six, walked one
and scattered eight hits over seven in-
nings.
Royals 4, Yankees 3
NEW YORK (AP) - Hal McRae's in-
side-the-park homer capped a three-
run first inning and Paul Splittorff and
Dan Quisenberry'combined on a four-
hitter as the Kansas City Royals beat
the New York Yankees 4-3 last night.
Splittorff, 4-4, worked 6 % innings,
walked two and struck out three and
gave up four hits in recording his first
victory against New York since July 15,
1977. Since then, the 35-year-old left-
hander had lost nine consecutive
decisions to the Yankees after
defeating them six straight times.
QUISENBERRY gained his 14th save
after giving up a two-out homer in the
ninth to John Mayberry, his fifth of the
year.
John Wathan walked in the Kansas
City first, stole second and one out later
scored on Amos Otis' single. Then Hal
McRae smashed a 1-0 pitch past center
fielder Dave Collins for an inside-the-
park homer, his eighth round-tripper
this year. McRae's only other inside-
the-parker in the majors was on July 31,
1980 against Boston.
The Royals added their final run on
Frank White's sacrifice fly in the fourth
after walks to McRae, Jerry Martin
and Lee May.
