4 Don your swimsuits and take the plunge! (Continued from Page 3) 7-9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed Sundays. Diving has priority Monday thru Friday, 2 to 3 p.m. The NCRB pool is open Monday thru Friday 7-9 a.m., 10 to 12 a.m. (Spring term only), and 12 to 8 p.m., Saturday 1 to8 p.m., and Sunday 12 to 8p.m. WHILE THE UNIVERSITY should certainly be proud of their pools, half the fun of swimming in the summer is laying out in the sun (or so I'm told). Not wishing the residents to spend their summer without a tan, the city has three outdoor pools and one indoor/out- door pool. Admission is $1.25 for an adult, .$.75 for 17 years and under, and senior citizens (60 and older), and $2.00 for a family. A season pass can be bought for $32.00 or less, and allows you unlimited access to any of the pools. Generally speaking, the Ann Arbor Department of Parks and Recreation does a magnificent job of keepingthe pools clean and clear. The concrete surrounding the water is smooth, and deck chairs, albeit very few, are provided at all locations for the sun worshippers among us. If you have a good-luck chair that you simply cannot tan without, you may bring that as well. OF COURSE, all the pools are wat- ched by a certified life guard during all operating hours. The city of Ann Arbor runs a 24-hour information number to call pool hours and general information. That number is 769-9140. Most students and University per- sonnel will be most familiar with the Fuller pool on Fuller road. If graceful bodies scantily covered with clingy materials are not your idea of fun, you might want to visit one of the other pools. Nevertheless, Fuller is known for (among other things) its -large, spacious sundeck. Fuller is located at 1519 Fuller road. The other three pools are: Buhr pool, 2751 Packard; Veterans Pool, 2150 Jackson Road; and Mack Pool, 715 Brooks Street. Sailing The spray in your face, the wind at your back, you battle the wind and waves to send your craft crashing through the surf. Sound like an Old Spice commercial? Well, it's not the America's Cup, but, as Mike Carter of the University of Michigan Sailing Club says, "sailing on a small like the ones around here is a real thrill, especially if you like to ace. If you've never tried it, you're in for a treat." That's about the size of it. Whether you race or just want to head out for a day of peaceful cruising, there's nothing like sailing to ease the tension of urban (and academic) life. GET YOUR TOPSIDERS ready and take advantage of some truly fine small sailing lakes, all of which are within minutes of downtown Ann Arbor. Por- tage Lake, Whitmore Lake, and Silver Lake are all within 12 miles of Central Campus and are all easily accessible. T-J Sales on Portage lake offers sail boat rentals ranging from windsurfers to 18-foot Interlakes. The rates range from $8 to $12 for the first hour and $4 to $6 for each additional hour. They also offer full-day rates, which are around $30. A more economical alternative to paying hourly rates for your sailing time is to join the University of Michigan Sailing Club for $30. This membership, which runs from May 6 to Labor Day, allows you unlimited use of the clubs 14 International 470's, where they do their sailing, and access to the clubs many activities. THE DUES Are used only to maintain the boats and run a small clubhouse. The boats are 15 feet long and are equipped with a mainsail and job. Some have spinnakers. The club has approximately 170 members, according to Carter, though considerably fewer use the boats on a regular basis. There are no fees to use a boat, and members are asked only to be courteous to other members who may be waiting for one of the 470s. THE SAILING CLUB gives lessons to new members on Saturday mornings, and the active members have access to the boats after that.
