Whenever a softball team sweeps
both games of a doubleheader, that
team's coach should understandably be
pleased, right?
Not Michigan coach Bob DeCarolis.
His team beat Kent State yesterday, 4-3
and 5-4, but DeCarolis said that he felt
"Lousy. And you can print that. We
didn't deserve to win. The team (Kent
State) was not that good. We came out
and got ahead and then we rolled over
and died."
THE WOLVERINES jumped out to a
3-0 lead in the first inning of the opening
game, thanks to a two-run homer by
Debbie Haines. The blast by Haines
was the first home run ever hit in the
softballers' new home field, which bor-
ders the outfield fence at Fisher
Stadium.
"It (the new diamond) doesn't have a
name yet," said DeCarolis. "We call it
the Varsity Diamond. After I coach
here for 30 years, maybe they'll name it
after me!"

"Once they got up, they felt it was

almost lost it."
