The Wolverines will host the Spartans at 1:00 today at Ray L. Fisher Stadium then travel to East Lansing tomorrow to close out the regular season. Currently sporting a 9-3 conference record (39-8 overall), Michigan holds a three-game lead over Michigan State (6-6, 25-25) in the race for second place in the Big Ten's East Division and the final available playoff position. Ohio State clin- ched the first playoff position and at least a tie for the division championship by winning three of four from the Spartans last weekend. IF THE WOLVERINES sweep the Spartan series, they will tie the Buckeyes for the division title. Illinois won a playoff berth and the West Division title with a 14-2 record. Second place in the West is up for grabs between Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and North- western. Michigan coach Bud Middaugh is expected to pitch his ace, sophomore Rich Stoll (10-1), in the opener and sophomore Dave Kopf (4-0) in the second game of today's twin bill. Junior Steve Ontiveros (5-2) and sophomore Bill Shuta (5-2) are tomorrow's probable starters.
