The Michigan Daily-Thursday, August 6, 1981-Page 11 Detroit prepares for r pre-season opener The Detroit Lions are currently holding two-a-day workouts at Oakland University in preparation for their drive toward a division title. The Lions were a much improved 9-7 last season following a disastrous 2-14 mark the year before. Al "Bubba" Baker (above left) finds something to smile about during the grueling pre-season workouts. Cannavino was the Lions' 10th round draft choice in this year's college draft. Detroit will play their first exhibition game Saturday against the Buffalo Bills in Buffalo starting at 6:00. The Bills, under NFL Coach of the Year Chuck Knox, edged the New England Patriots for the AFC Eastern Division title last fall. Buffalo's 11-5 record was the team's best since 1966. The two teams have met 11 times in the pre-season with the Lions holding a 7-4 edge. Detroit's first home game during the pre-season is set for August 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
