The Michigan Daily-Saturday, July 25, 1981-Page 7 92-year-old man finally pays alimony, vows to hold grudge ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - A 92-year-old man has been released from jail after paying the alimony, he had vowed not to give his ex-wife, and he says he'd have to be "100 percent" in- sane to ever again consider marriage. Robert Rabinof was released from the Pinellas County Jail in Clearwater Thursday after handing over $1,632 in back alimony payments and costs to his ex-wife, Elsie, 75. RABINOF SERVED 25 of a 30-day sentence he received for refusing to pay even one dime of the three $400 monthly payments he owed. "He would rather sit in jail than pay it to her," his attorney Radford Smith said at the time. Rabinof, a frail, white-haired man, gave up his fight Thursday after lear- ning that his ex-wife's attorney had asked the court to garnishee a bank ac- count. He ordered his attorney to hand over the $1,200, plus court costs. "I WON'T FORGET this as long as I live," said Rabinof, who is nearly deaf and almost blind and complained of not getting a good night's rest while jailed. A bailiff pushed Rabinof in a wheelchair to Pinellas Circuit Judge Allen Anderson's chambers for the brief hearing at which he was released. The judge said the elderly man could go straight home with his attorney and a friend, and skip going back to the jail in Clearwater to check out. Rabinof married for the second time at age 82. His first wife died in 1967. He and his second wife were divorced in February. "I want to get out and forget about everything," Mrs. Rabinof said yesterday. She said she was glad her ex-husband was out of jail. As for Rabinof, he was asked if he was happy to be free again. "I haven't been happy since my first wife passed away just two months short of 50 years since we were married," he said. Would he ever marry again? "I'd have to be insane, 100 percent."
