fair of snobbish mediocrity or no fair at
all, one must guiltily opt for the former.
If nothing else, it's fun to look at all the
people.
Still, I can't forget that mobile, now
forever banished, glistening in the sun
- an encomium to the impulsive won-
derments the human mind can put
together if challengednenough. The Ann
Arbor Art Fair no longer challenges
anyone. It is pure mercantilism - mid-
dlebrow, straitjacketed, safe. As such,
it probably deserves our reluctant civic
support - but God help us if it really
turns out to be the artistic wave of the
future.

him 40 American dollars. It was a good
price for him (1700 lira, not counting the
valuable foreign exchange) and a good
price for me (here, these vests cost well
over $100).
You, too, can become an accom-
plished barterer. In fact, a very good
place to start is the Ann Arbor Art Fair.
Just pick out something you like, find
the person selling it and argue. What
have you got to lose, except maybe your
voice.
