The Michigan Daily-Tuesday, July 21, 1981-Page13 10 Children of holoeaust survivors being studied EAST LANSING (UPI)-A new study by a resear- cher whose own parents endured Nazi concentration camps challenges long-held assumptions about emotional problems suffered by the children of holocaust survivors. Zoli Ziotogorski, whose parents survived the camps at both Auschwitz and Dachau, takes issue with the notion that persons who experienced the holocaust are universally anxious and depressed. HE ALSO CHALLENGES assertions that they are unable to become emotionally close to their children and that their offspring are overdevoted, mistrusting and hostile. others for his Ph.D. dissertation in psychology at Michigan State University. He said neither the stan- dard "Uniform Survivor Syndrome" nor the "Uniform Child of Survivor Syndrome" held up un- der scrutiny. In fact, he found no long range effects on people's sense of well-being or feelings about their family that could be attributed solely to having been born to holocaust survivors. "GENERALLY, PEOPLE happy with their lives-regardless of their parents' experien- ces-viewed their family life as close but not too restrictive while unhappy people tended to view their family life at the extreme, either too rigid or too interfere with mail movements that civilian police would be called on to act. The plan has been on the shelf since 1978. That was the last time that a national work stoppage by postal workers was threatened. DEFENSE officials said they con- fident that about 90 percent of the mail could be handled by the military per- sonnel, whose function would be to help whatever postal supervisors and other employees remained on the job. As bargaining resumed at a down- town Washington hotel, the two sides differed on whether any progress was being made. DAILY CLASSIFIEDS (Continued from Page 12) BUSINESS SERVICES WRITE ON ...
