HOWEVER, MANY students and faculty members
said they were dissatisfied with the open hearings as
well as the whole discontinuance review procedure.
University mathematics Prof. Wilfred Kaplan said
"there was never a feeling of a judicial confron-
tation" about the proceedings. "This is not a good
way to run the University, nor to inspire confidence."
Kaplan said, "The, administration was cam-
paigning to get this (the discontinuance) done. It was
like Reagan campaigning for his budget cuts."
FRYE DISAGREED with such criticism, saying
"It is an unfortunate representation of this situation
to say that there is a breach between the faculty and
administration.
"This is not a matter of faculty versus ad-
ministration," Frye said.
Frye has made formal notification to Dean Knott
allowing Knott to begin consultation for the

relocation of tenured faculty.
"THE INTERESTS of the faculty members wullbe
most important in the relocation process," said
Knott.
Most of the relocation process will occur when LSA
Dean-designate Peter Steiner takes office July 1.
"The very first thing I will do is begin discussions
about (faculty) relocation with the geography depg-
tment providing the Regents vote to discont'.e,
Steiner said. -
Frye commented on some of the facult o
position to the discontinuance, saying, "To. make a
good decision on behalf of the faculty we have to be
influenced by the quality and the substance of debate.
It is on that basis we have taken into consideration
the arguments of the faculty."
Daily staff writer Ann Marie Fazio filed a
reportfor this story.

Burglars take le dogs,
le buns, le sauce
Hot dogs, buns, peanuts, and bar-
beque sauce were taken from Le Dog
hot dog stand, 410 E. Liberty, around
3:15 a.m. Saturday after a plexi-glass
window was kicked in, police reported.
The stolen goods were later recovered
under a near-by park bench, police
said. A spokesman for Le Dog declined
to comment.
Apartments broken into
Two break-ins occurred on Monday,
police said yesterday. On the 800 block
of Packard, a suspect was seen leaving
an apartment at about 6 p.m., by the
apartment's tenant, who then called the
police. The suspect, a 19-year-old male
from Ann Arbor was later arrested on
the 1100 block of Packard and charged
with breaking and entering. Nothing
was stolen, however.
Early Monday morning, ' an apar-
tment on the 200 block of Packard was
broken into after the suspect pulled the
screen from the door. A resident of the
apartment woke up and saw the
suspect, who, after realizing he had
been seen, jumped her, hit her on the
head several times, then fled the apar-
tment, taking nothing.
