Dorms burglarized
Thieves stole almost $900 worth of
property from a Mosher-Jordan dorm
room April 29, Ann Arbor police an-
nounced yesterday. A $750 audio am-
plifier, a $100 bed and some smaller
items were taken from a 5th floor
room, police said. The thief or thieves
gained access to the room by entering a
bathroom next door, climbing out the
bathroom window onto the window sill,
and them climbing in the dorm, room
window.
Another break-in occurred on May 2
in Coman Houset of Baits Housing. The
thief there apparently entered a room
through an unlocked door and stole a
tape deck worth $200, police said.

stand now are a result of work GEO has
done over the past months."
GEO has expressed concern that in
the future the University might refuse
to raise TAs' salaries to keep them
eligible for federal assistance, and that
the University might hire only those
students who meet basic federal aid
requirements. But Feingold dismissed
these fears, noting that "$175,000 is not a
lot of money."
"All you need is 50 full-need work-
study students to use up $175,000," he
said, adding there should be no problem
now or in the future finding the needed
number of eligible students among the
hired TAs.
In addition, Feingold said, TAs are
hired without consideration of any
work-study applications, so there is no
danger a student would be denied a
position simply because the federal
government will not subsidize his or her
salary.
In a letter to the GEO steering com-
mitte, Assistant to the University Vice
President for Academic Affairs Ernest
Zimmermann outlined the changes to
be made in the 1981-82 school year.
The available work-study funds,
$250,000, will be divided proportionally
among the 14 schools and colleges at the
University. Each school or college will
then decide how its funds will be
allocated among the individual depar-
tments and programs, Zimmermann
said in the letter.
"GSAs (Graduate Student Assistan-
ts) funded under this program will be
indistinguishable from GSAs receiving
money entirely from the General
Fund," except they have demonstrated
financial need, the letter stated. "All
conditions of appointment will remain
the same; only the source of part of the
funds will change."
GEO held a rally on the Diag April 10,
demanding that the University clarify
the disputed points. After the rally,
about 30 GEO members went to the
administration building to discuss the
issue with President Shapiro. But,
Kadlecek said, Shapiro offered no solid
answers to their questions.
