Yellow Juckettes ATLANTA (AP) - A controversy has erupted at Georgia Tech over a group of female students, to be called Solid Gold, who are being organized to help recruit football players for the Yellow Jackets. Tech football coach Billy Curry and the universeity's athletic association advertised last week in the school newspaper, the Technique, for "a special group of young women" who will act as hostesses for prospective players and their parents. THE AD attracted 40 applicants along with some criticism from the newspaper and the -campus radio station WREK, who claim Solid Gold will tarnish Tech's image. "What it really means is that Curry and his staff have decided it's no longer enough to offer a player a superior education; let's throw in some sex ap- peal as well," wrote Technique colum- nist Mark Tyson. But athletic association officials say that Solid Gold members will have to make a serious commitment of time and energy to the organization. "They'll be giving up dating privileges on the six Saturdays when AP Photo we have home games, which is quite a lot to give up," said football recruiting partner secretary Susan Phinney. "We're to the asking slot of them." Fregosi fired ANAHEIM, Calif.
