Poge2O-WbdnbsdaV, Mdy 6" 1981-TH4Michiar Daiil Suspect Kelly arraigned 4 (Continued from Page 10) a large dose of sedative medicine prescribedby a campus physician prior to the shootings. HOWEVER, IN A re-arraignment held April 22 to avoid jurisdiction con- flicts, Kelly's new lawyer, William Waterman, gave more restrained ex- planations for his client's actions. Kelly then stood mute before the double murder charges, with Water- man asking for a time extension so that Kelly could be examined by "prominent psychiatrists." Waterman said he needed time to familiarize himself with the case. "Things have been moving kind of fast. .. I'd like to slow it down," Waterman told reporters outside the courtroom. KELLY'S NEW LAWYER did say that "there appears to be no real reason for Kelly's actions," adding that the crime is "outside the realm of conduct we can associate with this young man in the past." Waterman also informed reporters he believes that the pills his client was taking were antibiotics prescribed for an infection. When asked why he had been brought on the case, Waterman replied "I'm good," adding that "members of (Kelly's) family have associated with me in the past." "After a family meeting they contac- ted me," Waterman said, adding that Parazen resigned from the case. THE KELLY FAMILY has received threatening phone calls from an unidentified caller who said "There will be an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," Waterman said. "The calls were not of a racial nature," Waterman assured reporters. Later that week, 200 students and family members attended a memorial service held at St. Mary's Student Chapel to commemorate the two slain students. The Rev. Frank Cambria told mour- ners, "Reflect, and take comfort in the Gospel . . . Carry on the memory of 'these men in the quality of our caring for one another." BOTH SIWIK, A freshman planning a pre-med curriculum, and McGreaham, an honors student who was majoring in art education, were members of St. Mary's Chapel. A "living scholarship" is being established in the names of McGreaham and Siwik at Bursley Hall, friends say. Fellow students and staff members at the residence hall initiated the scholarship fund to provide "residential scholarships for deserving students demonstrating the leadership characteristics and commitment to scholarship exemplified by Douglas McGreaham and Edward Siwik." a 1S"Full line ofbackpackingI1 & camping equipment'' ARMY SURPLUS ARMY SURPLUS U of M Student Offer rWelstock a full line of clothing, boots, camping equipment, mili-15% O FF tory surplus clothing, and camou- flage clothing.
