Michael
Reagan
to quit
his jobs
WASHINGTON (UPI)-President
Reagan's son Michael said yesterday
he will quit both his jobs because of the
controversy over publication of a letter
he wrote seeking defense business and
mentioning his father's name.
Young Reagan termed as "silly" the
uproar surrounding publication of a let-
ter he wrote to a military procurement
office which spoke of "my father's
leadership in the White House."
A WHITE HOUSE spokesman said
the president saw nothing improper in
Michael's actions, but asked the White
House counsel to give all of his children
"informal guidance" for their business
activities.
The president spoke with his son by
telephone yesterday.
Acting White House press secretary
Larry Speakes said, "I don't think the
president has any problems with the
way Michael is doing business."

35, angrily told reporters he would
resign from both of his jobs.
"It's just so silly. Somebody else can
write a letter to the military bases or to
anybody and say, 'Hey I think Ronald
Reagan's a great president.' I write a
letter and say my dad's a great
president and I have the press on my
doorstep," he said.
Reminded that his father is the com-
mander-in-chief, he said, "It doesn't
matter if you're God. Unless you're the
low bidder, you don't get anything."
Asked what advice he had gotten
from his father, he said, "Don't write
any letters"-advice he said he would
take,
