At least five people were killed and police said other bodies may be found as floodwaters recede. MEANWHILE, forecasters in Miami said Tropical Storm Bonnie, the 1980 Atlantic hurricane season's second named storm, is likely to gain hurricane strength, but will die over the Atlantic before it ever threatens land. The Pennsylvania floods were spawned by a massive storm system that dumped rain from the plains to New England. Up to five inches of rain in two hours sent creeks gushing over three western Pennsylvania counties.. - "It's really confusing. We have reports of six, or more;dead but we can't say for sure at this time," said a state police spokesman at Kittanning, Pa. "We're trying to find bodies, trying to set up morgues. There could be a few more. It looks really bad right now." IN MIAMI, forecaster Gil Clark of the National Hurricane Center said Bonnie will probably hit westerly winds in the North Atlantic and dissipate on its nor- th-northwesterly course. The storm was likely to reach hurricane strength of 74 mph sometime today, forecaster John Hope said. "The storm doesn't have much prospect of hitting the United States," Clarkgsaid. "Unless something changes, it's never going to affect land" At 6 p.m. EDT yesterday, Bonnie's center was estimated near latitude 21.5 north, longitude 39.5 west, more than 1,800 miles east of Puerto Rico. Ordinance forbids bias in A12 hiring (Continued fromPage5) Scott emphasized that equal oppor- tunity does not advocate giving a "break" to minorities and women. "That's a common misconception people have about equal opportunity," he said. "We never advocate hiring someone who is not qualified for the job." Scott mentioned advertising in the Michigan Chronicle (a newspaper with a large minority readership) and on radio stations with minority audiences as examples of affirmative action taken by the department. "Years ago, jobs were advertised by word-of-mouth," Scott explained. "And since people who worked in the depar- tment already were mostly white males, the friends they sent to apply for the jobs were white males as well." Scott said he plans to start a written analysis of the city's hiring practices in the near future. I I 4 "WHY DO THE HEATHEN RAGE?" Psalms 2:1 and Acts 4:25 We quote excerpts from a letter received from a young lady- AND I MEAN LADY - from over in Alabama: "I am a sixteen year old girl who reads your column every week in our local newspaper. It does me good to see someone who is strong and sure in his Christian faith to write such straight forward articles in a time when the world has suddenly become so "free" and lenient. In this letter I would like to show my reverence, fear and love in. God and His laws. "I hardly know where to start. I guess the best way to start is to state the topic of my letter: sex. That's not sur- prising when you consider that that's about all that anyone talks about these days. First, let me say I am not a "prude." In fact, I consider myself a liberal Baptist. I am fed up and literally enraged at the events taking place in our world. "Today, sex seems to be some kind of an idol that demands worship. No longer is sex a private, personal gift from God. It is displayed and exhibited everywhere a per- son turns. Today, the young people say they have sexual freedom. What they need to realize is that this "freedom" Is really the enslaving bonds of the devil. "Young people no longer respect, fear, or obey God's rules concerning sex. They insist that as long as they are sincere, pre-marital sex Is a beautiful experience. And society is beginning to condone t.--- If I remember cor- rectly, God gave us marriage for the purpose that a couple could avoid fornication. Today, the true, sacred meaning of marriage has been disregarded, because it is "Irrele- vant". To me, sex before marriage is sin, and no beautiful gentle words can mask that fact. "And today, homosexuals are being treated like "heroes." I heard a man on the television claim that just because a person is a homosexual, that doesn't mean that he can't be a Christian; In fact, many homosexuals are professed Christians. Where does this man get his scripture to support his view? I get mine from Leviticus 20:13: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." With these words, I will drop dead in my tracks before I'll respect one of these people." (The young lady then comments quite a bit on the "movies." Have to say it has been so many years since I have been to one, am not in a position to comment.) "Thank you for taking time to consider my views. Sincerely, Name Signed. - "WHERE THERE IS NO VISION, THE PEOPLE PERISH!" It appears that God has touched the heart of this young girl and given her The True Vision Of The Curse Of Sex Corruption that has destroyed in the past multitudes of nations and civilizations; and now has brought our nation mighty low! Would God that the rulers, of our religious life, educational life, political life, business life, all life had the VISION granted this young. lady! Where is that verse of Scripture - have forgotten where it is and will not stop to look it up now - that says: "AND A LITTLE CHILD SHALL LEAD THEM! 6 6 4 P.O.
