Burns' mind is the fact his wife is due to
give birth to their second child soon.
Sonics sign Awtrey .
SEATTLE (AP) - The Seattle
SuperSonics reached into their past
yesterday and signed veteran free
agent Dennis Awtrey as a backup cen-
ter for Jack Sikma.
Awtrey filled that role when the
Sonics captured the 1978-79 National
Basketball Association title.
"It's great to be back," Awtrey said
by telephone from his home in Phoenix,
Ariz. "I think we havea chance of going
all the way again next season and that's
very important to me."
Awtrey, a 6-foot-10, 240-pounder with
a reputation of being a physical player,
was with the Chicago Bulls last season,
after being placed on waivers by the
Sonics.
The 10-year NBA veteran from Santa
Clara signed a one-year contract with
the Sonics.
General Manager Zollie Volchok said
the Sonics will compensate the Bulls
