At issue was whether Miss Texas, Terri Eoff of Lubbock, should be strip- ped of her title and scholarship and the right to represent the Lone Star State in the Miss America contest. Judge Hal Lattimore of the 96th District Court heard three days of testimony earlier this week on a com- plaint filed by sponsors of Miss Dallas, Bobbie Lynn Candler, who finished second in the 1980 Miss Texas contest. The suit, which claims Candler should be awarded the crown, alleged that Eoff (Miss Lubbock) violated the rules in the talent competition by run- ning almost two minutes over the time limit. The ruling came only a few days before the August 5 primary in which Faye will challenge incumbent Kathleen Fojtik for the Democratic nomination in Ann Arbor's northwest 14th district. FOJTIK FILED A grievance last Friday with the committee claiming Faye had distorted the facts behind her 1977 vote to allow county homeowners a $16 million personal property tax break. by the state tax commission which then reassessed area residents. Faye claims city residents had to help pay back the difference owed the state, although they hadn't benefitted by the initial 2.5 per cent tax reduc- tion. After a two-hour hearing, the committee ruled that because the issues involved in equalization of taxes are extremely complex, the question is one which the voters should decide. However, the committee ruled that a piece of Faye campaign literature referring to Fojtik's vote on a 1978 tax assessment of Ypsilanti Township was inac- curate.
