SAY IT IN THE CLASSIFIEDS CALL 764-0557 chief says regstration went well WASHINGTON (UPI) - Selective Service chief Bernard Rostker said registration of military-age youths has gone "extremely well" in the two-week sign-up period that ended yesterday. Anti-registration groups, however, reported "large-scale non- compliance." ROSTKER SAID anti-draft protest demonstrations fizzled nationwide and failed to disrupt the process, and the worst problem was registering the mentally retarded. By law, retarded and autistic youths are required to register for an eventual draft. They would, in most cases, be disqualified for military service during physical examinations. "Registration caused some incon- venience to parents and guardians of autistic and mentally retarded children," Rostker said in an interview at Selective Service headquarters. "UNDER THE law they have to register, and they needed extra help. But they did it. We worked with several organizations to support them." "I can't give a quantitative appraisal of registration yet," Rostker said, "but qualitatively it went extremely well. It ran smoothly. There was little incon- venience to postal clerks." However, a spokesman for the Com- mittee Against Registration and the Draft said, "The sense that we've got- ten from media reports and the local groups that we've been in touch with is that there have been large numbers of people that did not register." DUANE SHANK, executive director of CARD, a coalition of more than 50 peace, religious and civil anti-draft groups, said while the anti-draft organization did not have any figures, "It is our sense that there was large- scale non-compliance." Selective Service officials say they will not know for 90 days exactly how many of the estimated four million 19- and 20-year-olds registered. Registration forms from the 34,500 post offices across the nation and at consulates and embassies overseas are being forwarded to regional offices of the Internal Revenue Service for com- puter processing. While young men tend to be very mobile in the summer months, officials said, they believe 98 per cent will have registered if Vietnam-era patterns prevail. Postal clerks have been instructed to accept late registrations without question. Rostker affirmed Selective Service will try to identify those who failed to register using driver's licenses and school records, but prosecution of of- fenders will be left te local federal en- forcement officials. "WHY DO THE HEATHEN RAGE?" Psalms 2:1 and Acts 4:25 The heathen rage because they are the enemies of The Kingdom of Heaven, the King of Eternity! "O God, the heathen are come into Thine Inheritance; Thy holy temple have they defiled-' -Psalm 79:1. They can sing and pray "Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, enjoy doing so, and think they mean it. However, when it comes to literally obeying and establishing The Heavenly Kingdom Laws, The Moral Law, The Ten Commandments, and observing them in our daily conduct and commerce, frequently, if not most of the time, men are aroused to rag- ing against them! God is not pleased with such an offering of worship! "I hate, I despise your feast days ... Take thou away from Me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. But let judgment run down as waters, and right- eousness as a mighty stream." -Amos 5:21-24. "Why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" -Luke 6:46. Martin Luther, the great man of God of the 16th century, said that if he had the gift of miracles, yet it were better to testify of his faith by obedience, than by working miracles! "The great desire in the council-chamber of the infernal king has always been how man's innate religious feelings should be satisfied, and yet God not be served. How could the heart be kept from God, the clamors of conscience be silenced, and yet the demands of any Instinctive religious feeling be answered? The arch enemy of. man's immortal hopes solved the problem. The solution appears in the cunning devices as he sought out to beguile unwary souls. He has varied his plans to suit times and cir- cumstances, the condition of man, the progress of socie- ty, the character of human governments, and the condi- tion of the human mind." -Whoever it was that said that surely "knew his way around" in the spiritual world, in "The things of The Spirit." And he goes on to point out the devil's strategy down through the ages in solving this pro- blem with remarkable success until he gets to the place where God says: "Thus far, but no further." But that is quite another story, and "The things of The Spirit are foolishness to the natural man." "At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because Thou has hid these things from the wise and prudent, and has revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in Thy sight. All things are delivered unto Meof My Father; and no man knoweth the Son, but The Father: neither knowest any man The Father, save The Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. COME UNTO ME, ALL YE THAT LABOR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST. TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU, AND LEARN OF ME; FOR I AM MEEK AND LOWLY IN HEART: AND YE SHALL FIND REST UN- TO YOUR SOULS. FOR MY YOKE IS EASY, AND MY BURDEN IS LIGHT." -Matthew 11:25-30. P.O. BOX 405 DECATUR, GEORGIA 30031
