Evening Worship-6:00 p.m. Robert Henning, Pastor, 663-9526 Join The Daily Turn out the t light - (and save electricity) eampaign grievancee By ELAINE RIDEOUT Kathleen Fojtick, Democratic can- didate for reelection to the Washtenaw- County Board of Commissioners, filed an unfair campaign practice grievance yesterday against her Democratic op- ponent just 11-days before the August 5 primary. "It's a last-minute campaign tactic - no one's picking on her," said Gerald Faye, candidate for county com- missioner from District 14. The V-shaped district includes the north-central area of Ann Arbor bor- dered by Jefferson on the south, by Seventh Ave. on the west and the Veterans Hospital on the northeast. FOJTIK SAID statements circulated by Faye claiming she voted to raise Ann Arbor taxes are false. The com- plaint, issued to the Michigan Fair Campaign Practices Committee, does not speculate as to whether these "falsehoods" were circulated maliciously or through carelessness. David Cahill, legal advisor for Fojtik, said the Committee would review the claim but probably would not come to a decision before the primary election. He said the committee is a private agency with no means of enforcing its decisions other than by publicizing them. Fojtik said she voted in 1977 to allow county homeowners a $16 million per- sonal property tax break for items in- cluding carpeting, draperies, and dish- washers. Although the state tax com- mission overruled that decision, she said county taxes were nevertheless levied at a lower county equalized value. "MR. FAYE'S campaign has distor- ted and lied about this situation," she said. "He stated the vote and the intent was to raise Ann Arbor taxes unfairly when, in fact, the intent was to allow for tax relief for homeowners," she said. Faye said when the commissioners decided to exempt two-and-one-half per cent of the county's property taxes, they were "tinkering with state laws." When county revenues came up short, he said, the state ordered a re- assessment to pay back what was owed them. "My point is that by voting with the townships, she voted against her district," Faye said. "THAT SECOND time around, Ann Arbor had to help pay back the dif- ference owed the state even though they hadn't benefitted by the 2/ per cent taken off much of the out-county area," he said. "As a result," Faye added, "Ann Ar- bor had to pay more than what our property was worth." Faye said Fojtick's vote represented "nothing evil," just "poor judgement. If she was serious about her claims, she would take me to court," he said. Fojtick said she has spent "a lot of time" researching Faye's claims and has received documentation that in 1977 taxpayers in Ann Arbor paid $112,182 less in county taxes while taxpayers throughout the county had a county tax savings of $291,650.85. "WHY DO THE HEATHEN RAGE?" Psalms 2:1 and Acts 4:25 "The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: But these which are revealed belong unto us and our children forever, that we may do all the words of this Law." Deut. 29:29. The object of these articles is to bring you face to face with the question whether or not you are seeking to live in the light of revealed Truth and "do all the words of this Law." Are you obeying God's Ten Commandments, or striving to with the help of God? Have you the purpose or desire to do so? Have you the faith to realize unless you repent of rebellion against God's Law and accept Jesus Christ as your substitute for obedience and your atonement for disobedience, then God is not your Saviour but your enemy! In the Old Covenant God's Law was written on two tables of stone, and delivered to man by Moses. In the New Covenant God's Law is written on the fleshy tables of the heart by the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ is the Mediator, with the result that the soul so blessed desires to "trust and obey" and seeks to honor and please God. It is the testimony of this column and writer that there be many who call themselves Christian, claiming great spiritual experiences and that they have been "born again," yet don't hesitate to run rough shod over some of the Ten Commandments - which reveal the very character of the Almighty - making the Law void, and then "pass the buck".to the Lord Jesus Christ, saying He kept the Law for them and paid their penalty for sin, and made them free with the liberty to do as they please! My answer to folks with such a faith can best be made by quoting a few verses from the 119th Psalm: 53, 70 and 115: "Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake Thy Law ... Their heart is as fat as grease: but I delight in Thy Law ... Depart from me, ye evildoers; for I will keep the commandments of my God." God grant that my heart in its attitude toward God's Ten Command- ments might be in perfect accord with every statement of the 176 verses of the 119th Psalm. Near the very close of the Bible we read: "BLESSED ARE THEY THAT DO HIS COMMANDMENTS, THAT THEY MAY HAVE A RIGHT TO THE TREE OF LIFE, AND MAY ENTER IN THROUGH THE GATES INTO THE CITY." - Revelation 22:14. We quote from a letter just received: "Why do the heathen rage?" This is a good question. "Why do you rage?" I attempt toinswer that question. I rage to get you and all men "To fear God, and keep His Commandments, which is the whole duty of man," lest the wrath of God fall on you, your family, the nation and the world. P.O.
