Ifyou're the last one to leave ... t HELP CONSERVE ENERGY! campaign trail in Detroit DETROIT (AP) - Workmen were dismantling the Republican National Convention yesterday as GOP presidential nominee Ronald Reagan talked political strategy with the par- ty's high command and exhorted: "Now we really go to work." The Republican presidential nominee and his running mate, George Bush, spent their first full day as a campaign team by stopping by GOP meetings and receptions to extend their thanks. SPEAKING TO members of the Republican National Committee, Reagan said the GOP's unity "is a dream come true" for himself and others who have worried about "the divisions that so often have embittered various segments of the party and left us a little less than united when it comes to going forward with the main mission." Calling his campaign a crusade, Reagan said, "This time as never before I think we're ready for it, all of us." Reagan said Republicans must try to win over millions of unhappy Democrats and independents by showing them "there is a place for them to go to register this dissatisfac- tion for the way things are going." THE GOP nominee held a strategy luncheon with Bush before attending a meeting with Republican state chair- men and an early evening reception with staff workers. Reagan urged the state chairmen to help the GOP gain control of Congress. "Don't send us to Washington alone," he said. Bush told the same group, "There are some high visibility senators who must be replaced. There are some very high visibility, vulnerable Democrats out there." REAGAN AND Bush leave Detroit today and fly to a rally in Houston, where Bush now makes his home. After dropping -off the vice-presidential nominee, Reagan and his staff go on to Los Angeles later in the day. After several days rest, Reagan and his senior staff will get together Wed- nesday for three days of strategy meetings. Reagan was asked by reporters whether he felt the fall campaign would be dirty. "There have been stories that way," he. replied. "We'll just have to wait and see." REAGAN SAID President Carter "is going to have to run on his record and I don't think it's a record I'd like to run on." At the Republican National Commit- tee meeting, Reagan got a surprise from Alaskan Republicans: a box con- taining a fresh salmon on dry ice. After the committee meeting Reagan went to a session with the-state leaders of his campaign. "It's been great and you all have been great," he told them, "Well, now we really go to work." Atthe committee meeting, GOP Chairman Bill Brock was re-elected with Reagan's support. Betty Heitman of Baton Rouge, La., was elected co- -chairwomanosueceed Mary Crisp.' "WHY DO THE HEATHEN RAGE?" Psalms 2:1 and Acts 4:25 The object of this article is to try to stir you up to give, more attention to reading the Bible itself, for yourself, with the aim of getting familiar with all of it. Most professed Christians feel and believe they can get more profit from the Bible by reading some men's comments on it. This may be good and helpful in case the commentator Is a true and faithful man of God. However, if one substitutes the reading of commentators to the neglect of a direct contact with The Almighty and His Holy Spirit by reading the Bible itself, he may miss the blessed experience of having, and knowing, "God has touched his heart." Or, as the Spiritual Song puts it: "I know The Lord has laid His hands on me!" Christ said My words are Spirit, and they are life! (Recently heard a man say if he had to listen to a preacher whorm he believed was speaking for himself, and not representing God, he felt like retiring down into the "faillout shelter," which many of our churches have pro- vided.) The after effects of a nuclear explosion are as nothing, being only physical and temporal, in comparison with the after effects of the explosions of false prophets, as such are spiritual and for Eternity! In 2nd Corinthians 11:13, 14 we are warned of the time when the devil would get in the House of God, in the pulpit, and deceive men in- to believing he was an Angel of Light! This party said, however, he thought it his duty to deny himself the com- fort and protection of the "fall-out shelter," and stay on the job of listening, learning of the enemy, and praying for all unconverted, especially the preacher! There is a "Massive Attack upon the Word of God," coming from many directions in these days: the athiests, the communists, many of the clergy and educational in- stitutions of great denominations, schools, colleges, and it appears recently their position is being supported by some great instruments of national and international news media. We believe this situation, an exceedingly dangerous one, is the result of Christian people of our na- tion miserably falling down on the vows they took to serve and obey God. Much more is at stake than our national safety and preservation: The welfare of our souls throughout an endless eternity is at stake, and that of the young people and children of the coming generation. It would be better for a church to liquidate its assets and go out of business, rather than preach, teach, and promote doctrine that denies the Virgin Birth and the Diety of the Lord Jesus Christ! In the Gospel of Luke, 12:23, etc., there is the account of one asking Christ: "Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 'STRIVE TO ENTER IN AT THE STRAIT GATE: FOR MANY, I SAY UNTO YOU, WILL SEEK TO ENTER IN, AND SHALL NOT BE ABLE!"' Christ then goes on to tell how many will be greatly disappointed in finding they were unprepared for entering heaven, had believed a lie and were shut out for eternity! Exercise yourself in "SEACHING THE SCRIPTURES," in order to always have a conscience "void of offense towards God, and towards men," lest you be found aiding and abetting the enemy of your soul, instead of with- standing him! t f',f,}f#'. ...#..a...\..aP.O.
