Page 2-Saturday, July 19, 1980-The Michigan Daily Kent State man to assume new Michigan Union director post Frank Cianciola, director of the Student Center at Kent State Univer- sity, has been named director of the Michigan Union. He will take office August 15. Cianciola's appointment is part of a comprehensive plan to transform the building into a true center for students. The 76-year-old Union is currently un- dergoing renovations. No time limit has been set for com- pletion of the construction and planning stages, interim Union Director Suzanne. Young said yesterday. A CHIEF factor in choosing- Cian- ciola, said Young, was his experience in working with students. At Kent State, Cianciola directed the student center with the help of a student board. Young said Kent State's student cen- ter relied heavily on students for em- ployees and provided more than 200 jobs for students. Like the Union, Kent State' student center aervea liquor. Young aaid that Cianciola's experience overseeing a center with a liquor establishment would be helpful in his duties as Union director. THIS FALL the University Cellar will begin plans for its move to the center of the first floor of the Union. Plans will also begin for a student food service. Young said the food service will sell a variety of items in addition to regular grilled foods such as hamburgers and hot dogs: She suggested the service may sell ethnic food and "good, natural food like you get at Edens." "I don't see why we can't try to provide it all," she said. Clanciola will submit to the Regents in September a final plan of renovations for the Union. Young said students will definitely be part of the governing structure of the new Union. itThe kind of virtuosic bril- liance audiences lust after; with an awesome power most pianists can only dream of[Y' -Chicago Sun Times Byron Jonis, All Chopin Program: Nocturne in D-flat, Op. 27, No. 2 Etude in C-sharp minor, Op. 25, No. 7 Five Waltzes Sonata in B minor, Op 58 Nocturne in C-sharp minor.
