Farris, Knott new acting deans 6 I 6 (ContinedfromPage3) members is currently seeking a permanent replacement for Ragone. He added that the committee has already submitted several nominations. Knott.iwill assume the position of acting LSA dean on July 1 when current LSA Dean Billy Frye assumes the office of University vice-president for academic affairs. Knott came to the University in 1967 as an, assistant- professor of English. He has been associated LSA dean for curriculum since 1977, and while with the English department served on its curriculum and executive committees. He also initiated the freshman seminar program. KNOTT SAID HIS basic objective as acting dean of the college is "to keep everything functioning as smoothly as possible." He added that he thought it would be difficult for an acting dean to initiate any new programs. "The responsibilities (of a dean)," he continued, "are much larger than those of an associate dean. For one thing, he has to be responsive to more people and more concerns." Sussman said choosing an acting dean is a fairly difficult task because "they do everything a dean does-it's always a difficult equation to balance." A committee is now being selected to chose Frye's replacement as LSA dean, he continued. It will consist of six faculty members and at least two students. Sussman did not rule out the possibility of either deanship being filled by someone from outside the University community. MORE EXHAUSTED CUBAN refugees arrived in Key West yesterday as the exodus from Cuba continues. These two refugees came in a flotilla of ocean- going shrimp boats. MB5, LORD? Quit complaining.
