Housing
a major
problem
for renters
with kids
,WASHINGTON (AP) - The banning
of tenants with children is on the rise,
with one out of every four rental units
excluding youngsters, the Department
of Housing and Urban Development
reported yesterday.
One HUD survey shows that the per-
centage of rental units in buildings with
"no-children" policies has jumped
from 17 per cent in 1974 to 26 per cent
this year.
"THE INCREASE reflects two tren-
ds: a rise in the number of new
buildings implementing such policies
and the adoption of 'no-children' rules
by buildings which used to accept
youngsters," said Donna Shalala,
assistant HUD secretary.
She said HUD is committed to raising
the exclusion problem "high on the
agendas of local, state and national of-
ficials," but it is "not yet clear"
whether government action should be
taken to battle the practice.
Half the families with children in one
HUD survey reported problems finding
a rental home, while more than 40 per
cent said they had to settle for housing
below their expectations.
SOME FAMILIES told HUD of being
forced to live with relatives or friends
because they couldn't find apartments
that allowed children after months of
searching. Others reported living in
cars, vans or tents while seeking
suitable housing, HUD officials said.
"As home-ownership becomes less
financially possible for young families,
and as there are ever-increasing num-
bers of divorced, widowed and elderly
person ... the availability of rental
housingfor those familiesiwho do have
children has turned into a salient
issue," HUD reported.
The department released two studies
documenting the problem.
THE LARGER HUD-funded report,
which describes the kinds of ex-
clusionary practices occurring nation-
wide, is based on a survey of renters
and apartment building managers con-
ducted by the University's Survey
Research Center.
The other, also financed by HUD,
details the effect of exclusion policies
on families and is based on personal in-
terviews across the country by National
Neighbors, a fair housing organization.
Amng the reports' conclusions:
" Efficiencies and one-bedroom
apartments are the most likely to bar
families with children. Forty per cent
of one-bedroom units are restricted,
while 20 per cent of two-bedroom ren-
tals ban youngsters.
" Other restrictions, in the form of
occupancy standards based on number,
sex or age of children, affect about 55
per cent of all units with two or more
bedrooms in buildings that ostensibly
accept youngsters.
" "No-children" practices are most
likely in newer buildings. About one-
third of all units built since 1970 exclude
children, compared with only about
one-fifth of older buildings.
Respondents to the National Neigh-
bors' interviews complained that rental
buildings that accept children often are
ether too expensive, substandard or

"WHY DO THE HEATHEN RAGE?"
Psalms 2:1 and Acts 4:25
"AND THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST!" So, the Spirit of God
tells us in the 10th chapter of 1st Corinthians regarding
the Angel of God that conducted Moses and the Children
of Israel from the slavery of Egypt to The Promised Land.
We are also told that some of the people were idolators
and committed fornication, with the result that 23,000 fell,
in one day. And again that some of them "tempted Christ"
and were destroyed of the destroyer!
On the basis of the above we are safe in saying that it
was Christ who appeared to Moses at the Burning Bush in
the land of Midian where he was a shepherd, and sent him
into Egypt to deliver His people from bondage and con-
duct them to the Promised Land. Moses objected and
resisted the assignment to the point where God got angry
with him and demanded that he go, promising "SURELY I
WILL BE WITH YOU," AND WHEN YOU HAVE DELIVERED
THE PEOPLE YOU AND THEY SHALL WORSHIP ME
HERE WHERE WE ARE TALKING.
Moses. obeyed and went. After many signs and
wonders, Moses led forth the people towards the
Promised Land, and later they stopped and worshipped
God at the place of The Burning Bush.
It may have been in the neighborhood of this same
place where Moses and Aaron ran into the same devil-
ment and spirit of hell that today is plagueing our country
and the world: demonstrators and strikers. Children tell-
ing their parents how they should be raised; and their
teachers how and what they should be taught; Servants
telling their Masters what they will do; Strikers telling the
possessors of their own property what they will do and
what they must pay; and devils raging against lawful and
God ordained authority, etc., etc.
Is not that just the same spirit with which Moses was
confronted in the demonstration and strike against his
authority recorded in the 16th chapter of the Book of
Numbers - Read and meditate upon it! Four men, all pro-
minent and high officers in the nation promoted this
affair, and just about the entire nation approved of their
action and gathered together for a great march on Moses
headquarters. When the demonstrators and strikers got
to Moses headquarters, God appeared on the scene and
took over. The remainder of this article tells what hap-
pened: you can confirm it by reading the 16th chapter of
the Book of Numbers.
A sudden earthquake, the earth opened up, several
entire families, men, women and children, household
goods and all earthly effects, went down alive into the pit.
Next day, the people instead of repenting and seeking
God's forgiveness, blamed Moses. As a result, about
15,000 perished.
"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: 'FEAR
GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS ....".
