TORONTO (AP) - Ron Hassey's
two-run single keyed a three-run
Cleveland third inning and the Indians
went on to a 7-3 triumph over the Toron-
to Blue Jays last night behind the eight-
hit pitehing of John Denny.
Denny, 8-5, gave up two runs on three ,
hits in the first inning, but allowed just
four hits the rest of the way.
WILDNESS HURT Toronto starter
Jim Clancy, 7-6. Five of the seven bat-
ters he walked eventually scored.
Toronto took a 2-0 lead in the first.
Singles by Alfredo Griffin, Damaso
Garcia and John Mayberry produced
one run, and Garcia scored while Roy
Howell grounded into a double play.
Cleveland got one run back in the
second when Hassey walked and scored
on successive singles by Jack
Brohamer and Rick Manning. Then the
Indians recorded their winning rally in
the third as Clancy loaded the bases on
walks, Hassey singled for two runs, and
Manning singled to deliver another.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Bob Boone
drove home two runs in a three-run
fourth inning, carrying the
Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-3 victory
last night over the Chicago Cubs.
THE PHILLIES trailed 3-1 when
Garry Maddox walked to start the bot-
tom of the fourth. Maddox advanced to
second when third baseman Lenny
Randle booted Manny Trillo's hard
grounder for an error and Larry
Bowa walked to load the bases with one
out.
Boone then singled to score Maddox
and Trillo and one out later, Cubs star-
ter Mike Krukow, 6-10, walked Lonnie
Smith to reload the bases. That brought
on Bill Caudill, who was touched for a
sacrifice fly by Pete Rose that gave the
Phillies a 4-3 lead.'
The Phillies added a run in the eighth
on an RBI single by Greg Gross.

SPORTS OF THE DAILY:
Maxwell turns down Celtics' 'fi
BOSTON (AP) - Free agent forward
Cedric Maxwell, who has spent all three
years of his National Basketball
Association career with the Boston
Celtics, probably will sign with another
team within 10 days, his agent said
yesterday.
"I would say that within the next
week of 10 days, at the very longest, he
will sign," said Ron Grinker. "At this
moment, the likelihood of Max playing
in Boston next season is extremely
remote."
He said he and Maxwell are con-
sidering several offers substantially
better than what Celtics General
Manager Red Auerbach has told him is
Boston's final offer. He refused to say
who made the offers.
"I haven't talked to Red in two
weeks," Grinker said by telephone
from his Cincinnati office. "Something
could change."
Earlier yesterday, Celtics vice
BILLBOARD
Eleven former coaches and athletes will be inducted into the University of
Michigan Hall of Honor next Wednesday at Crisler Arena.
Inductees include: Benny Friedman, one of the top quarterbacks in Wolverine
history; Vic Heylinger, who holds the best winning percentage (.789) of any
Michigan hockey coach; John Fischer, NCAA golf champ; Dick Degener, 1936
Gold Medalist in the Springboard Diving Championships; Buck Giles, great second
baseman of the 1920's; Cliff Keen, 42-year Wolverine wrestling coach; Barry
MacKay, NCAA tennis champ in 1957; and John Townsend, Basketball All-
American of the '30's.
Named to the Hall posthumously will be Bill Buntin, Matt Mann, and Eddie
Tolan.
A Celebrity Golf Tournament at the University Course precedes the third an-
nual Hall event. Tickets for the golf and dinner are $150 per person (wife included
for dinner), while dinner and induction ceremony tickets are $30 per couple.
president Jeff Cohen said, "It may take
Maxwell the summer to reslize that
we've made him a good offer. It'll take
him time to realize the other pastures
may not be greener."
Grinker emphasized that Maxwell
enjoyed last season with the Celtics and
wants to stay with them. He said Max-
well would accept $50,000 less per year
from Boston than he could get from
another team.
"My opinion is he will not enjoy
where he's going as much. But is that
enjoyment worth $200,000?"
Kingman's out
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Outfielder
Dave Kingman was placed on the 15-
day disabled list yesterday by the
Chicago Cubs because of a recurrence
of an injury in his right shoulder.
He first injured the shoulder May 8 in
a play at home plate against San Diego.
Kingman was sidelined from June 12
through June 27.
