Page 2-Wednesday, May 28, 1980-The Michigan Daily Four charged with Abscam conspiracy 4 NEW YORK (AP) - A Pennsylvania congressman, the mayor of Camden, N.J., and two Philadelphia attorneys were indicted by a federal grand jury yesterday on bribery conspiracy charges growing out of the FBI's un- dercover Abscam investigation. Rep. Michael Myers,. a Democrat from the First District in Philadelphia; Camden Mayor Angelo Errichetti; Louis Johanson, an attorney and Philadelphia councilman; and Howard Criden, also an attorney, were named in the indictment. ALL FOUR were charged with con- spiring from July 1979 to February 1980 to commit bribery and defraud the government by demanding and agreeing to receive money in return for Myers' influence in performance of of- ficial acts. The indictments handed down at U.S. District Court in Brooklyn charged that an FBI agent posing as a Middle East businessman was told that Myers would help the businessman remain in the United States for $10,000 cash. They could not be immediately reached for comment. According to the indictment, Myers received an initial $50,000 for assuring the agent he would introduce private immigration bills that would allow hiii to remain in the country . On the wire side. However indispensible the Asso- ciated Press and United Press International wire services may be, they do pump their share of garbage over the lines each day. Since the American hostages were taken almost 36 weeks ago, AP has been sending over "Hostage Logos" every few days, "for use as desired with hostage stories." No paper we've seen has yet used the logos. And while we're on the subject of useless AP photos, just try to rememberthe last time you saw a weather satellite picture in your morning newspaper. Well, every morning while you're still in bed, AP sends, direct from its weather satellite, a picture of the clouds covering the U.S. Not to be left out of the garbage wire act, UPI every afternoon sends over breaking livestock, bulk egg, and Detroit egg reports. In case you are interested, yesterday's hogs. closed at 800, barrows and gilts (go look 'em up in your dictionary) were steady, 92 score Grade A eggs were at 134.00- 140.58, and the Detroit egg market was fair, with supplies short to ample.
