9 4B - October 20, 2010 The Michigan Daily - michigandaily.com THE QUICK BREAKDOWN MAIZE GAUGE The Michigan Daily football writers break down the weekend's stats that don't show up in the box score. The Spread-o-Meter measures the success of quarterbacks, the Rod-o-Meter judges how emotional (positive or negative) Rich Rodriguez was following the game and the Hype-o-Meter measures the fans' performance. SPREAD-O-METER ROD-O-METER 3/ At the podium on Saturday, Michigan coach Rich Rodri- guez was clearly peeved. It's understandable given the 4R loss to Iowa was his second straight conference defeat Rich Rods and it means the hot seatjust got hotter. The coach talked to media after the game for five measly minutes. 3/ Denards This score may seem generous given the offense's inability to get in the end zone for the majority of the game, but the Wolverines tallied 28 points on a defense that had previously allowed 10 points per game. The Michigan offense gained 522 total yards. HYPE-O-METER 2 This is partly forgiveable because it was fall break last week- end, but the upper level of the student section was sparse at the beginning of the game. Fans started streaming out of Big Houses the stadium at the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth. They missed a heckuva almost-comeback. LOOKING GOOD PLAY OF THE GAME 0 WIDE RECEIVER JUNIOR HEMINGWAY The redshirt junior once again provided Michigan with a big play down the stretch. Hemingway racked up 134 yards and a touchdown on nine catches and had arguably Michigan's biggest play of the afternoon, a 45-yard reception from sophomore quarterback Tate Forcier in the fourth quarter. The touchdown was the Wolverines' second of the three they scored in the fourth quarter. This play, coupled with his big play against Indiana, makes Hemingway look like a legitimate big-play threat. ARIEL BONDaI CORNERBACK COURTNEY AVERY It was Iowa's last drive of the game and Michigan's last shot to get a defensive stop and get the ball back to its offense down just a touchdown. The Hawkeyes were looking at a third down and eight from Michigan's 40-yard line. A first down would put them in field goal range and allow them to run out the clock. Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi completed a four-yard pass torunning back Adam Robinson, but after a missed tackle by Courtney Avery, the play turned into a 26-yard gain. NOTABLE QUOTABLE Vince Lombardi could come in and not fix some of the problems on the defense."' THE MICHIGAN DAILY TOP 10 POLL Each week, Daily Sports staffers fill out ballots, with first place votes receiving 10 points, second-place votes receiving nine, and so on. The results are published with first-place votes in parentheses. r .. 1. OREGON (11): The Ducks 6.
