The scientists plan to inject the squirrels with the hormone in an effort to reduce the non-native fox squirrel population. University officials said there were none of these squirrels on campus seven years ago, but now there are close to 400. PROTESTING PROP. 8 A group of students at Princ- eton University are promoting The Princeton Sidewalk Protection Act, a proposal banning sidewalks for all freshmen, the Daily Princeto- nian reported. The group held a demonstration on Princeton's Firestone Plaza last week to promote the proposal, also known asPrincetonProposal 8. The students hope to draw attention to what they think is the injustice of California's Proposal 8, which bans gay marriage, through satire. "We are rather perturbed that the state has allowed the majority to rescind the rights of a minority group: the very sort of thing a con- stitutional democracy is designed to prevent," said Princeton senior Chris Simpson, the founder of the movement. THE FIGHT AGAINST PIRATING A federal judge in Massachusetts stopped subpoenas issued by the Recording Industry Association of America because Boston Univer- sity has proven that it doesn't have enough information to identify the students accused of illegal file- sharing, the Chronicle of Higher Education reported. The ruling is the latest develop- ment in London-Sire vs. Does 1-4, an ongoing case against unidenti- fied Boston students. It implies that all subpoenas could be dropped if universities cannot supply enough information, and may also mean that IP addresses won't be suffi- cient identity proof in the future. YOUR PAL, THE TERRORIST? Two students from the Univer- sity of Maryland were added to the terrorism watch list after par- ticipating in an anti-death penalty event in 2005, the Diamondback reported. The students were both mem- bers of an anti-death penalty stu- dent group at the time. State police acknowledged that this was a misuse of power, and that they had sent an undercover officer to investigate any potential plans for protest. The students said the goal of the forum was not to protest, and that they aren't sure why they were sin- gled out for the list from the other group members at the event.
