The ba
I was minding my own business
walking toward the bank last week
when a highly confused bee accosted
me, attaching itself to my hip.
I am terribly allergic to bees. I was
scared.
As it enjoyed pollinating my hip
and drifting in and out of my pocket,
I tried shaking it off, but several awk-
ward dance moves later, it remained
attached.
I marched toward the bank in
hopes that it would understand that
I was, in fact, not a flower or tree.
Several minutes later, though, the
insect was still securely fastened to
my jeans.
Finally, overcome with fear, I
appealed to the first tough-looking
passerby and handed him a piece of
paper.
"I know this is really weird," I said,
"but could you please hitthis bee from
my hip?" He gave me a weird look, and
then flicked the bee off with ease. I
thanked him and acknowledged that

the situation was awkward, but he
just quickly nodded and walked away.
My hero walked off into the sunset.
ALLISON GHA MAN
A friendly nudge
My family and I were driving back
to campus from Zingerman's on Sat-
urday, and I had just eaten my weight
in food between blondies and Mexi-
can hot chocolate.
Coming down Fifth St., however,
our car became a part of an massive
traffic jam that was occupying the
street.
Somewhat puzzled as to why this
was happening at six o'clock, I wait-
ed for the car to drive past the cause

the bee
of the holdup.
Finally, inching into a central
clearing, I rolled down the window
and saw a row of over 300-pound
bouncers alongthe curb of the street
in front of the 5th Quarter. Each of
them were saying, "Come on little
guy" and "You can make it!"
Still confused as to what was going
on, I looked to what or to whom these
comments were directed.
At first, I saw a man with an ice
scraper in hand pushing something
on the street. And then I looked down
and saw an old fat squirrel stuck in
the middle of the street, barely able
to move.
Soon after I heard myself joining
in chorus with the bouncers, encour-
aging the squirrel to keep moving.
To this my family just rolled their
eyes and went back to debating
whether the Mexican or Peruvian
hot chocolate was better.
