The Michigan Daily - michigandaily.com ortsMonday October 13, 2008 - 58 MAIZE GAUGE The Michigan Daily football writers break down the weekend's stats that don't show up in the box score. The Defense-o-Meter measures the intensity of the defense, the Rod-o-Meter judges how emotional (positive or negative) Rich Rodriguez was following the game and the Hype-o-Meter measures the fans' performance. DEFENSE-0-METER 2 / The defense didn't allow a touchdown, but it did give up more than 300 yards to a relatively weak offense. The worst part of the defense's performance was the missed tackles. No Obis official stats are kept for those, but we're guessing Michi- gan had somewhere between one and two thousand. ROD-O-METER 2/4 In his Notre Dame and Illinois postgame press conferences, Rodriguez sounded angry. That wasn't the case Saturday - 4 hejust looked sad. You almost have to feel for the guy. He Rich Rods knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he probably didn't think it would be as bad as his first year at West Virginia (3-8). HYPE-0-METER The student section didn't show up. Most students 0 should have wanted to see a blowout win after the debacle against Illinois. That's what everyone expected Big Houses against Toledo, but the seats were empty anyway. Even when the game was tight, the crowd wasn't loud. NOTABLE QUOTABLE "Quiet. Quiet. It wasn't crazy. Just quiet. Sometimes after games, you get guys mad and yelling and screaming and things like that. Not today. Everybody's j'ust quiet." -Michigan running backs coach Fred Jackson on the mood in the locker room after the game SOCATD RESOL THE MICHIGAN DAILY TOP 10 POLL 6. TEXAS TECH: Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Mike Crabtree broke the school's all-time career receiving touchdown record Saturday with 32. We wish Michigan's sophomore receivers could just hold on to apass. TEAM 1. Texas (6-0) 2. Alabama (6-0) 3. Penn State (7-0) 4. Oklahoma (5-1) 5. Florida (5-1) 6. Southern cal (4-1) 7. SOUTHERN CAL: The Trojans had 10 penalties and quarterback Mark Sanchez turned the ball over four times in one quarter.USC stillwon 28-0. If Michigan would have made those mistakes; who knows how many it would have lost by? 3. PENN STATE: Penn State beat Wisconsin by 35 points. Michigan hasn't scored 35 points in its last two games combined. We're assuming that will still be the same after the two teams meet this weekend. 10. UTAH (1): Last year, Utah beat Wyoming by 50points. Thissyear,it was 33.Wyoming coach Joe Glenn issreally turning those Cowboys around. By the way, Louie Sakoda (the guy who hit four field goals against Michigan) booted an81-yard punt. /7.
