I was wrong. My seven-pound Maltese, sitting on my lap, went into attack mode, barking hysterically at a man who'd approached my window. "I'll pay you for a ride to Meijer," the man said. A slew of bags filled with aluminum cans were slung over either shoulder. After politely declining his offer. he walked away - or so I thought. Minutes later I saw him riding away on a bike, still holding every one of his bags, in the direction of the. supermarket. CHRIS HERRING Leaving West Park on. Saturday night, some friends and I found chat one of our bikes had been stolen. Though the bike was unlocked, we still felt wronged by the residents of our quiet and serene Ann Arbor. Soon after, weonmet awoman named Janet, who appeared to be both a neighborhood watchdog and a crazy lady not wearingashoes. Janet assured us she would find our bike, and told us to wait on that street corner and she return riding that blue Huffy like a knight in shining armor. She returned after less than a minute and told us to wait with the other college kids she found nearby. We ended up on a porch with some students drinking PBRs. Janet never came back, buttI saw her later riding a blue Huffy - still sans shoes.
