The Michigan Daily - michigandaily.com Tuesday, February 19, 2008 - 7 DELEGATES From Page 1 LSA sophomore Kelly Bernero, chair of Students for Hillary, said she thinks the delegates should be seated without any negotia- tions. She said Michigan voters had an opportunity to vote, and they made their opinion known even without the promise of delegates. LSA sophomore Tom Duvall, chair of Students for Obama, dis- agreed. He said because voters were told from the beginning that their votes wouldn't count, seat- ing the delegates now would be unfair. He said the result of the primary is not an accurate por- trayal of the will of state voters' because there was such a low voter turnout. Duvall said a new caucus - or a negotiation with the nation- al party to split the delegates between the candidates - would be a better way to seat Michigan's delegates. "I hope a compromise can be worked out soon," he said. Bernero said she disagreed with the idea that the alloca- tion of Michigan's delegates is unfair. She said it was each can- didate's decision whether to be included on the ballot, and that Obama chose to pull his name from it. "Obama took his name off the ballot, obviously he would not be pleased, but that was his choice," she said. "People really knew. I really don't think that's a valid argument." LSA junior Jonathon Kendall, chair ofVoice YourVote, a non-par- tisan organization, said he thinks another election would inspire more people to vote. "It would be really good for Michigan and for the demo- cratic process in general," he said. The Republican National Committee chose to strip the state of half its delegates. Of Michgan's 30 delegates, 23 were allocated to former candidate Mitt Romney. After Romney resigned from the race on Feb. 7, those delegates became uncommitted. Eighteen of those delegates have pledged support to presumptive Republican Party nominee John McCain. - The Associated Press contributed to this report. JFK assassination papers released DALLAS (AP) - Long-hidden items and documents related to the 1963assassinationofPresident John F. Kennedy were revealed for the first time yesterday, after spending nearly two decades locked inside a courthouse safe. Dallas County District Attor- ney Craig Watkins presented the articles at a Presidents' Day news conference while standing next to brown and white file boxes stacked in a pyramid. The items include a purported transcript between Kennedy assas- sinLeeHarveyOswaldandOswald's killer, nightclub owner Jack Ruby; a leather gun holster that held the weapon Ruby used to shoot Oswald; brass knuckles found on Ruby when he was arrested; and a movie con- tract signed by then-Dallas District Attorney Henry Wade. Watkins said investigators told him about the contents of the blue, two-door safe shortly after he took office in 2007. "And every DA up until the new administration decided that they wanted to keep it secret," he said. the michigan daily FALL '08 7-8 bdrm. hses. furn., wood EFFI( firs., idry. & prkg. walk to campus. 810- homes sti; 231-0229 or see Craigslist.com key- cations word Pepper's Properties for pictures. ameniti' FALL RENTALS 1 bdrm. and effi- ciencies available fall 2008.
