2 - Tuesday, September 18, 2007 Losing their religion TUFFET TALK One of the most interesting things about the Notre Dame vs. Michigan game is what it does to the religious attitudes of fans. Take for example the guy ina Michigan shirt I overheard yell- ing at a guy in a Notre Dame shirt at a tailgate party. "You know what?" he yelled. "I hate your team. And I hate your religion." Then there was the pope. Outside the stadium, a student was dressed as the Holy Father. He wasn't giving the sign of the cross, though. Instead, he held up a foam hand that said "Shock 'em." His friend was holding a sign that pointed out the obvious: "The pope is a Michigan fan."
