All of my other memories from the Daily
- and there's a highway full of them - race
after that one. But they cannot hope to
catch up. Suhael is far too fast a driver.
And when the light finally burned out in
my cave, I felt like that other great traveler,
like an arrow that has been shot out all of
the way.
Evan McGarvey
Associate Arts Editor
PM, AG, SO, AD, PSAD, BN, AK, LC, JB,
KC, JD, RK, IS, KM, CG, EB:
"...and it was nearly done, this frail
traveling coincidence; and what it held
stood ready to be loosed with all the
power
that being changed can give. We slowed
again,
and as the tightened brakes took hold,
there swelled
a sense of falling, like an arrow-shower
Sent out of sight, somewhere becoming
rain."

I have three months left here, so I feel
weird writing this goodbye. Anyways,
here it goes.
I used to hate this place. But somehow,
I never got the courage to call it quits.
Thank goodness, because sticking around
turned out to be one of the best things I
did in college. So thank you to:
Daily Sports, for accepting me a little
late in the game and finally making me
feel at home at the Daily. The hockey beat
(especially Ian, for the clementines). The
people who go beyond the title "Daily
friend," you know who you are. My par-
ents, for their continuous support. Every-
one at the CCRB who was always flexible
with my schedule. The editors who hated
me, for motivating me to prove them
wrong. Sean, for waiting all those late

nights (and so much more). I love you
all - well, not the hateful editors - and
couldn't have survived this without you.
Stay classy!
Katie Niemeyer
Daily Sports Writer
It all started with my first jeopardy
party where I met Stephanie and Mike.
Three years later, they are still two of my
best friends.
I learned a lot at the Daily - how to
write a lede and write on deadline. Thanks
to those who taught me that. It came in
handy for med school essays.
I had a blast not cheering at sporting
events, which I didn't think was possible.
And I loved the rush of seeing people read
the paper I helped create, even if no one
ever read my articles.
But most of all, I made life-long friend-
ships. Iwill cherish them forever.
Thank you to the entire sports staff, the
staff of summer 2005 (you made my 21st
birthday spectacular) and all the people I
have met in that little building on Maynard
St.
I wish I could have been there to say
goodbye last night. I will never forget my
time here.
Thanks for all the laughs and hugs and
icebreakers. I love us!
Jamie Josephson
Daily Sports Writer
I walked into the Daily a nervous wreck
only to come out a more confident, happier
"JJock."
Burke, Bremmer, Ellen and Megan -
thank you for initiating me into Elections
madness and bad foosball decisions.
Thank you to the best beatmate, Anne!
I'll always remember getting lost on our
road trip (to State) and asking stupid ques-
tions (oops, that was just me).
A special thanks to Coach Burns for all
of your outstanding quotes!
A big thanks to my senior sports class.
Also, thanks to all my friends (especially
The Pad!) for reading my stories, or pre-
tending to!
Last (especially in beer pong) but not
least, thank you to the "Daily Point" that
has yet to expire - Matt. You went from
being a (fortunate!) result of 'angry drink-

ing' to, unbelievably, my boyfriend of
14+ months. You made Daily Sports and
Michigan more amazing than I could have
asked for. Nicely done - even for a lousy
New Yorker.
GO BLUE!
Matt Singer
Senior Sports Editor
To the past: Ellen for introducing me
to the Daily. Brady and Weber for keeping
me here. Bob, Schick, Megology, Burke,
Bremmer and Goni for making me feel
like family. Ian for being a great mentor
and having faith in me.
To the present: To the seniors, it's been
a pleasure working with you. Stephanie,
from campus band to on the field at the
Rose Bowl, it's been a unique experience,
with some unforgettable memories. And,
Jamie - the girl I didn't say a word to my
first year-and-a-half here - I'm amazed
how lucky I am that we finally found each
other. Thanks for being patient through
all the times this place took me away from
you - I hope it's been worth it!
To the future: Kevin, Jack, Brom, IanR.,
Mark, Jose - it's been great working with
you all. Scott, you'll do a great job as MSE,
as long as you keep enough of those brain
and liver cells alive. And to the young guns
- Nate, Chris H., Felds, Andy, Eisenstein,
Courtney, Anthony, Alex, Chris M., Matt
J., and Adam - you have the potential to
take the sports section to new heights.
Don't give up on this place.
Leah Graboski
News Editor
Ciao.
Christina Hildreth
News Editor
There are three groups of people on
Campus: those who hate the Daily, those
who love the Daily, and those who are
indifferent.
Those who love the Daily: Thank you.
Most have no idea how hard this is, and
when you read the paper it makes it worth
it.
To those who hate the Daily: Keep hat-

ing, but if you complain, get your facts
straight. Read the paper, find mistakes and
call us out on them. Berate us for inaccu-
racies and never let us forget what we've
done wrong. We (and the rest of campus)
need you more than you know, but we need
you to be informed. Don't throw stones if
you don't know where you should aim.
To those who are indifferent: Fine. But
you're missing good stuff.
Seth, I love you. Without you I never
would have left this place and for that, I
am always thankful.
Stephanie Wright
Senior Sports Editor
I didn't understand the true meaning
of a love-hate relationship until I started
working at the Daily. Sometimes I wanted
to quit. Other times I didn't want to leave.
But I stuck around, and I'm glad I did.
Thank you to my family for listening to
me complain about the Daily for hours on
end.
Thank you to the sports staff and espe-
cially my beat mates. The teams we cov-
ered may have been disappointing at times,
but none of you ever were..
Thank you to the most amazing friends
ever. We met because of the Daily, but I
know our friendships will last long after
we're through with this place.
And thank you to the one person who
can always make me smile. You never gave
up on me, and I love you all the more for it.
As for the people I hated ... you aren't
worth mentioning, but you know who you
are.
James V. Dowd
Magazine Editor
Since I came to the Daily in the fall of
2003, I'd say I'm quite a different and bet-
ter person for the experience. As it turns
out, I leave working with numbers rather
than journalism, but I'll never forget what
I learned. Thanks Brady and The Realest
for bringing me in and teaching me what
it takes, and to Gennaro and Ian for help-
ing me out alongthe way. Thanks to all the
greatbeatmates - Amber, Nate, Ian, Mark,
Levy, Jose, Jamie - the fun I had with you
guys made it worth it. Thank you Katie,
Stephanie and Singer for your friendship,
even if we've somewhat fallen apart over

time. And perhaps most of all, thanks to
that punk-ass Chris Gaerig, Shubra and
Bridget for the year of the Statement, I
couldn't have made it through without
you guys. My advice to future writers:
Cover hockey, you will learn more from
Red Berenson than you will anyone else.
But no goodbyes.
Walter Nowinski
News Editor
Karl, you called me the morning after I
lost my election and asked me to join the
Daily - it was perhaps the best phone call
I have received. Thank you.
I could not be happier that you are the
new editor in chief - be fearless.
Annie, you were wonderful when you
edited my first story and are probably the
reason I came back to write a second one.
You taught me to push my stories to the
brink.
Anne, Tina and Leah, you guys were
great and made it so it was always a plea-
sure to come in to the Daily.
Grossman, I trust that you have the
commitment to keep the news section in
control of the paper, and will run for Edi-
tor in Chief next year. I am counting on it.
Rafi Martina
Opinion Columnist
From what I gather, even a year's expe-
rience on the Daily warrants me a senior
goodbye. It's an awkward experience, to
be sure. One years exposure gives me
little opportunity to recollect memorable
Daily events, and certainly no prerogative
to impart any "wisdom" to younger staff-
ers. Nonetheless, I'll take advantage of the
free word space to (pretentiously) quote
the wisdom of another writer not oft-cred-
ited as a journalist. Among the horrors of
war, Albert Camus paused for a moment
of meta-journalism: In a piece strangely
apposite to today's journalistic standards
he derided the press'stendencyfor "appeals
to the shopgirl sensibility" with "articles
written to flatter the public's taste for the
simpleminded or sentimental." Frankly,
it's been a pleasure to work with those who
haven't (for the most part) succumbed to
the shopgirl sensibility. Hopefully some-
where under the verbosity of my columns
I've managed to do likewise. .

ARIES
(March 21to April 19)
Refrain from being critical of children
and others who are close to you.
Remember Goethe: "Correction does
much, but encouragement does more."
TAURUS
(April 20 to May 20)
Because of confusion dealing with
parents and bosses, you might feel
bummed out about your personal life.
But this is just-a passing trick with the
Moon! It comes and goes very quickly.
GEMINI
(May 21to June 20)
Heed that classic advice today that
says, "If you can't say something nice
about someone, don't say anything at
all." If you follow this, you'll have no
regrets.
CANCER
(June 21 to July 22)
Money concerns are actually confus-
ing. You don't have all the facts. Do
nothing today, because to some degree,
you're working in the dark. Wait until
tomorrow.
LEO
(July 23 to Aug. 22)
For some reason, you feel full of self-
doubt today, and this spirals into wanting
to avoid others because you feel less
attractive. This is all illusion! (Neptune.)
You're as wonderfil as you were last
week.
VIRGO
(Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
Because Neptune and Saturn are danc-
ing with the Moon today, many people
feel anxious or ftill of self-doubt. It's a
depressing combination. But it's gone
immediately! Relax.
LIBRA
(Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)
Don't worry if a friend seems critical
of you, or vice versa. This is just a tem-
porary misunderstanding. Let it go.

Don't make a big deal out of anything.
Don't even try to fix it.
SCORPIO
(Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)
Misunderstandings with parents and
bosses could arise easily today. That's
because the Moon and Saturn are
involved, and we hear everything as a
criticism. Let it pass.
SAGITTARIUS
(Nov. 22to Dec. 21)
You might doubt your knowledge
about something. Someone could make
you feel ignorant or uneducated. Dual
take the bait, and don't be depressed.
This feeling is gone by tomorrow. Phfi!
CAPRICORN
(Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)
You value your security. This is why
it's easy for you to be concerned about
money and possessions, especially for
the future, and especially if you share
them with others. That's OK.
AQUARIUS
(Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)
Be patient with partners today,
Pessimism is rampant, and this leads to
misunderstandings with others. Cool
your jets.
PISCES
(Feb. 19to March 20)
If someone criticizes your work today,
don't take this to heart. Everyone is crit-
ical and full of self-doubt today. People
will lash out.
YOU BORN TODAY Without ques-
tion, you're original and unique. You do
things your own way. You're also very
sophisticated and hip to the scene. You
have a driving, youthful energy. You
often become totally absorbed in your
work. You appreciate fashion and cul-
tare, bat you're not o stave to it. This
year you wilt study and leamnsomething
very important to you.
