This week the Michigan State Senate plans to vote on HB 5646, a video services bill intended to promote T competition and choice. More competition and choice for Michigan consumers sound great. But as written, HB 8456 gives the big phone and cable TV monopolies the power to control what you can see and do on the Internet. Without changes, these companies will be able to block services like YouTube in favor of services they own or control. Ask your State Senator to amend HB 6456 because jobs and economic development in Michigan depend on real competition. The next Google could easily come from Ann Arbor, Lansing, Saginaw or Kalamazoo. But only if the Legislature protects full and fair competition.
