THURSDAY: Explained FRIDAY: Before You Were Here Hot dog man, please step forward Amid the mass of students in the crowd for Saturday's football game against Iowa, one rose above all the others. The man wound up in the mid- dle of the second half and starting flinging hot dogs to the students, who began to cheer and stand up, vying for one of the treats. After throwing at least five hot dogs wrapped in plastic, though, stadium security caught on, deem- ing the hot dogs pork projecticles. As he was escorted out with eight security guards, the student section broke into chants of "Let him stay!" and "Hot dog man!" The question is who was this mysterious figure? If it's you, please claim your rightful place as a hero of the students. I was using a machine I'd never used before to place the order, and it was taking me a long time to enter my billing information cor- rectly. Behind me, my mom started a conversation with a woman waiting in line. I didn't pay much attention until the woman picked up one of the books she had been idly paging through and read us the title. "How to Deal With People You Can't Stand," she said. "This would come in handy in Lansing." I turned around to see who would make a comment like that and was surprised to see State Sen. Liz Brater. As long as she reads it carefully, she's got my'vote come Nov. 7. ANNE VANDERMEY Bard's crew invades town When my roommate and I were sitting in front of BD's Mongolian Barbecue Friday night, waiting for a table, a woman in an Eliza- bethan-era skirt walked by. It was about 4 feet wide. We thought there might have been a Renaissance fair in town, then a man dressed like Shake- speare came by. Later, after eat- ing dinner, we left BD's to find a group of about half a dozen people dressed in Renaissance garb and signing in Latin. My roommate's brother was vis- iting, and we told him Ann Arbor is always this weird. We knew, though, that that's kind of a lie. GABE NELSON The Michigan Daily - michigandaily.com 413 E.
