(3)~ S4M S4M admits to trying to crash MPP's website as polls opened By Dave Mekelburg Daily Staff Reporter The results of this year's fierce Michi- gan Student Assembly election almost weren't released last night. The Michigan Progressive Party, clearly the loser by the vote count, accused Students 4 Michigan of violat- ing the election code. People affiliated with S4M attempted to overload and shut down MPP's website Monday night as the polls opened.:That night, a computer program downloaded a single file from MPP's website more than 200,000 times in an attempt to crash the website at a crucial time. S4M admitted involvement. The names of the perpetrators were not released by the MSA Elections Board. S4M struck a deal with MPP, accept- ing responsibility for the incident in return for a timely release of election results. The deal requires S4M to admit guilt in the form of an MPP-approved letter to the editor in The Michigan Daily. The letter must be ready by noon Sunday. The other provision of the settlement See SCANDALS, page 7 Slott and Benson take 61 percent of vote; S4M takes 8 of 9 seats By Neil Tambe Daily StaffReporter When Justin Benson received the phone call last night from current LSA Student Government President Andrew Yahkind telling him he would be the next vice president of LSA-SG, he was both relieved and excited. Benson and president-elect Joanna Slott, who ran on the Students 4 Michi- gan ticket, were the victors in the race for LSA-SG's two highest offices, soundly beating Michigan Progressive Party presidential candidate Joe Golden and running mate Dan Ray. Slott and Benson netted 1957 votes, capturing 61.5 percent. Golden and Ray got 1,226. In total, 3,183 votes were cast in this year's LSA-SG elections, represent- ing just under 20 percent of the 15,965 students enrolled in LSA. Voter turnout was high compared to previous elections. There were 2,153 votes cast two years ago in the LSA-SG election and 1,367 votes in last year's election.
