Dear Midway,
Medical school applicants are usually
evaluated on multiple factors

including grades, MCAT scores,
reference letters, clinical exposure,
research experience (if applicable),
personal statement and interview. As
a sophomore, you should continue
to keep your grades up to maintain
a competitive academic profile. Also,
start familiarizing yourself with the
structure and problem types of the
MCAT and give some thought to
professors you would like to ask for
reference letters. Medical schools
expect applicants to spend time in
health care settings to test and
confirm their interest in the medical
field and to demonstrate their
commitment to serving others.
Shadowing health professionals.
