'y ly available care," she said.
"We provide comprehensive health care for women,
including a broad spectrum of services, and no practitioners
are obligated to perform something that poses a moral, ethi-
cal conflict."
The ACLU would not comment on the specifics of the
case, but ACLU spokeswoman Lorraine Kenny explained
that the law's language is too broad. It could criminalize a
vast number of abortion procedures and restricts a woman's
medical choices, she said.
Opponents contend that, under the law, physicians are
obligated to only perform the procedure if a woman's life is
in danger and that the law does not safeguard a woman's
health or her fertility. They say the law does not include an
exception for women who may risk potential injury owing to

continuing a pregnancy.
But the Justice Department website disputes that the pro-
cedure is either necessary or reputable.
"Rather than being an abortion procedure that is
embraced by the medical community ... partial-birth abor-
tion remains a disfavored procedure that is not only unnec-
essary to preserve the health of the mother, but in fact poses
serious risks to the long-term health of women and in some
circumstances, their lives," states a document on the Justice
Department's website.
This week, a federal judge ruled against a similar subpoe-
na of one of the plaintiff's other doctors, Cassing Hammond
of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

COMCAST

make the deal "as friendly and amicable
as possible, as fast as possible," but he
also noted that he was ready to abandon
the proposed merger if need be. "We've
walked away from big things before.
Life goes on," Roberts said.
Paul Kim, senior media analyst at Tra-
dition Asiel Securities, said that while
Roberts's bid for Disney was not surpris-
ing, the timing was. "It's going for the
jugular," he said. "He is using this vul-
nerable time to force Disney's hand."
Kim also said Comcast is basically a
cable company, and might be biting off
more than it can chew.

RETREAT
Continued from Page 1A
stumble," he said. "They do an awful lot
of positive things to impact the campus
and the community."
Willis added that he believes the
Greek leadership learned from the
experience. "I would not expect that if
this same set of students went to the
retreat again, this would happen," he
said, but added that precautions will be
taken on future retreats. "We will be
working to make sure this kind of thing
doesn't happen again," he said.
But some Greeks are still hurt to
hear of their leaders' infractions.
"They're telling us how to run our

frats, and they end up doing what's
wrong. ... I'm sure a lot of people
respect their services, but they did what's
wrong," said Kinesiology freshman Mat
Fisher, who asked that his fraternity not
be named. "Basically, they went behind
our backs and did what's wrong."
Fisher added that he feels the execu-
tives should have come out earlier with
the truth of the events. "Three weeks is
putting it back a little too much," he
said. "They are the people that are sup-
posed to set the example."
Willis added that this will not help
the Greek community's stereotype.
"It's incumbent on the Greek system
to change that image ... these situa-
tions don't do a lot to help," he said.
