The Michigan Daily - Friday, January 16, 2004 - 7 WIRELESS Continued from Page 1 buildings. I expect LSA to be doing a fair amount of wire- less networking," Palms said. The main benefit of the new networks in the Union, League and Commons is that all students can access the system. The School of Engineering and School of Educa- tion also have systems, but they are only available to stu- dents of those schools. "Certainly our board - the Michigan Union Board of Representatives - has been working with ITCS for a couple of years now, trying to partner to bring wire- less to the Union, knowing and kind of having a good sense that this is something that students want," Palms said. Several other buildings on campus already offer limit- ed wireless Internet services, such as the Shapiro Undergraduate Library, Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library and the Angell Hall computing site. Students such as Brad Dobbie, an Engineering fresh- man, are pleasantly surprised by the new system. "It will be more efficient group work with that resource. I do most individual work in my dorm, so I just have it through ethernet, but when I leave for group work, it's really useful to be able to fully use a laptop," Dobbie said. STUDENTS Continued from Page 1. Libby Benton, vice-chair of Students for Dean. House calls are gatherings held at the homes of Dean supporters and are open to anyone to attend. Benton also said Dean has utilized www.meetup.com to form small groups of supporters across the nation. The web- site allows people with similar interests to organize on a local level. With regard to the issues, Dean has attracted many fol- lowers with his anti-war stance and multilateral approach to foreign affairs. She said she also liked that Dean is a fiscal conservative, meaning that he would not build up a large national debt that would have to be paid off over a long peri- od of time. Students for (John) Edwards Co-chair Rob Devore said the North Carolina senator is sincere about his plat- form. "In the debates, it is easy to see that he is the only can- didate who answers reporters' and audience members' questions seriously and thoughtfully and he is always willing to explain his plans fully," said Devore, an LSA senior. Devore added that he likes Edwards' plans for higher education, which would make college tuition free for the first year for students who attend public colleges and who are willing to work part-time for 10 hours or more.tHe also supports tax credits for students and their parents. "That's obviously something that's going to help all stu- dents," Devore said. Ilya Ross, chair of Students for Gephardt, said he and other students support the Missouri congressman because he appeals to traditional Democratic constituencies such as union workers, activists and minorities. He added that he thinks Gephardt has the best chance of the eight Democratic candidates to prevail over Pres- ident Bush in the general elections in November. "He is often touted as the son of the Midwest, and that's very important because he can win big states like Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania," said Ross, an LSA junior. He also said Gephardt's platform includes a health care plan that would cover all Americans, an international minimum wage and tax credits of up to $10,000 for par- ents sending their children to college. He also formulated a project called Teacher Corps, mod- eled after the ROTC, which pays the college loans of people willing to spend five years teaching wherever needed. Like Gephardt supporters, Clark advocates said he has a good chance of beating the current president. Wolverines for Clark Co-chair Courtney Kennedy said Clark's military experience gives him an extra edge in "He is often touted as the son of the Midwest and that's very important because he can win big states like Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania. - Ilya Ross University of Michigan chair, Students for Gephardt beating Bush because with the exception of Kerry, no other candidate has served in the armed forces. Clark was supreme allied NATO commander during the war in Kosovo. "He favors a multilateral approach to foreign affairs, and given his past experience, I think he would be good at achieving that," Kennedy said. "Bush went into Iraq without the support of many other nations in the world and Clark was against that." In regard to student interests, Clark supports a tuition cap and a plan that gives $6,000 to students to help pay for the first two years of college. A project called the Civilian Reserve is also part of his platform, and would recruit volunteers to serve if there is a national crisis. the michigan daily CAMPUSRENTALS HOUSE FOR FALL 5 Bdrms. plus FIN- STUDENT APTS.
