0 12A - The Michigan Daily - Thursday, October 10, 2002 Blue duo ousted in California LAND-FOR-PEACE Two States for Two People In 1922, the League of Nations and our Congress recognized Palestine is the National Home of Jews. Article 80 of the United Nations Charter confirms that Palestine belongs to the Jewish people... The British Administrators of the Palestine Mandate, ousted ALL Jews from east of the Jordan River and gave that 78 percent of Palestine to the Arabs-forming there the ARAB PALESTINE STATE in 1946... Today, ARAB PALESTINE JORDAN has less people than the forty miles River to the Sea left for JEWISH PALESTINE ISRAEL. In 1948, Arab states attacked Israel attempting to destroy the Jewish state. 6,200 Jews were killed before the Arabs were blocked. The center of Israel along the coast was left just nine miles wide and half of Jerusalem was taken by the Arabs... In 1967, Arab armies tried again to destroy Israel-and failed. Judea-Samaria (West Bank), Gaza and Jerusalem were liberated by the Jews. During the 19 years of the Arab occupation, gunfire from Arab held hills and their raids across the cease-fire lines killed 700 Jews and wounded over 5,000 Jews... While Nazis tortured and killed Jews, the British kept Jews from Palestine, while flooding the country with Arabs from foreign lands. Even our America provided no sanctuary for the Jews. Now 60 years later, those foreign Arabs and their families as well as a great many Arabs who had never set foot in Palestine, have been receiving life-long welfare benefits in 59 United Nations Arab refugee camps which U.S. helps finance... If Israel returns to their pre-1967 nine mile wide death trap- Arafat's PALESTINE LIBERATION ORGANIZATION will have a foothold for their " Liberation of Palestine"- the end of the Jewish state and its people... Those U.N. Arab camps now have some four million, their numbers doubling every 15 years or so- Arabs to take over and destroy Israel and its people... The U.N. had turned over their 14 Arab "refugee" camps in Lebanon to the PALESTINE LIBERATION ORGANIZATION (PLO). The PLO in the bloody, savage rampage from those camps killed many tens of thousands Lebanese and the PLO attacks on Israeli towns, farms, schools murdered over a thousand Jews. To survive, Israel must remain 40 miles wide, its border at the Jordan River--- well able to defend itself. Most Arabs in the U.N. camps and in Judea- Samaria and Gaza will have to settle in the ARAB PALESTINE JORDAN or in any of their 22 Arab homeland states... That will complete the two-state solution when 78 percent of Palestine formed ARAB PALESTINE JORDAN... That will complete the population exchange when almost a million Jews were driven out after 1948 from Arab states where Jews had been for centuries- their homes, businesses, possessions taken from them... By Josh Holman Daily Sports Writer Sophomores Michelle DaCosta and Leanne Rutherford had the luxury of spending last weekend in sunny south- ern California, but it wasn't quite like paradise for the two Wolverines. Michigan's two representatives at the 2002 Riveria/ITA All-American Cham- pionship at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center were eliminated from both sin- gles and doubles play in disappointing losses during prequalifying. DaCosta began prequalifying compe- tition on a high note as the No. 11 seed in the tournament, but quickly hit a roadblock in Jackie Carleton from host UCLA, losing 7-6 (6), 7-5. DeCosta's teammate Rutherford start- ed off with a little more luck, taking the first set from Rice's Lauren Archer, 6-2. But it was all downhill from there, as Rutherford proceeded to drop her next two sets, 7-5, 6-1, which prevented her from qualifying for the tournament. The greatest pain for the duo may have come during its doubles match. They clawed tooth and nail against the seventh-seeded team of Maureen Diaz and Anita Loyala of Southern Cal., but came up short, falling 9-7. "Losing such a close match in dou- bles was like a double whammy," DaCosta said. DaCosta and Rutherford have become fast friends ever since the first day they met for practice with the Wolverines. Despite the fact they are the only into an,44444 ..,. l sophomores on the team, the two have already proven themselves as a very for- midable doubles pairing early in their career. "We get along well," DaCosta said. "If we ever get in a close situation, we can both just laugh it off." The two will undoubtedly be a force for the rest of their stay at Michigan, but they're not quite ready to lead the Wolverines to glory by themselves just yet. "I don't feel we have just one leader," DaCosta said. "I feel we can look to just about anyone on the team for guidance." The rest of the Wolverines did well enough without DaCosta and Rutherford this past weekend while the team played host to the Wolver- ine Invitational, as every competitor placed in their respective singles or doubles flights. DaCosta and Rutherford will bring their added bit of experience back to the Wolverines for the Midwest Regional Championships starting Oct. 24 in East Lansing before dual play begins again in January. Gajic in excellent company co -ywith No. 9 GRIND Continued from Page 11A unlucky distinction of donning No. 9. Yes, that's the same number the legendary coach wore at Michigan, as well as Michigan's lone Hobey Baker winner Brendan Morrison - Michigan hockey's prodigal son. Whether the number should be retired is a whole other issue. But it doesn't seem like Berenson gives that jersey to just anyone. Either you have a lot of hype (Mark Kosick), or are the real deal (Morri- son). For Michigan to have a strong chance of defending its champi- onships and making it to a third straight Frozen Four, Gajic has to prove he's the latter.
