Wilson, who is averaging 13 yards per punt return, broke a 70-yard touchdown against Southern Mississippi - something Michigan hasn't done in years. Edge: Illinois INTANGIBLES: Illinois and Michi- gan are not satisfied with the way they've played, and certainly, the defending Big Ten Champions have something to prove at home. The Illini fans are some of the loudest in the Big Ten, and Michigan is just 3- 5 on the road with Navarre leading the charge. The Wolverines are gun- ning for their 21st straight win in a Big Ten opener, but the streak could easily end at 20. It's as simple as that. You also can't stay within 50 points if you turn the ball over seven times, four of which were inside the 20-yard line ... I believe that it was coach Horn's idea to hold the pregame warmup at Mitch's. He underestimated my coaching abili- ties under extreme conditions ... Normally I wouldn't condone high-step- ping every touchdown, but in this game it was warranted ... Michigan really could not handle our pass rush. I was glad that the announcers kept me posted with just how badly the Wolverines' quarter- backs were doing ... I knew the game was over when I saw that I was facing coach Horn. Michigan head coach David Horn: can say after a game like this. But what I'd say is this: "QB No. 16 is to quarterbacking what David Schwimmer is to funny." Coach Phillips allowed his players to high step into the end zone on nearly every touchdown. I mean, I know beat- ing any team coached by myself is cause for celebration, but I am submit- ting a report to the NCAA, requesting that coach Phillips be fined. That was classless and completely unacceptable. If those six interceptions had been six touchdowns, the score would have been 63-57 (assuming we converted on all of our two-point conversions). That would have looked a lot better for us. It just goes to show - score touch- downs when you can, don't throw inter- ceptions when you can't ... WR No. 19 led all receivers with 161 yards receiving. So coach Phillips can suck it ... ILLINOIS 63 the game, but I definitely won the pregame warmup at Mitch's. Oh - and I can run a killer 800-meters. Just try me. LOWEST PRICES! HI GHEST QUALITY! FASTEST SER VICE! I fl 1002 PONTIAC TR. For this week's matchup, coach David Horn led the Wolverines and Jeff Phillips coached the Fighting Illini Play of the game - One of Michigan QB No. 16's four interceptions. With Michigan at in the red zone, QB No. 16 dropped back to pass, threw over the middle and was picked off by Illi- nois CB No. 5, who danced 101 yards to the house for one of the Illi- ni's two defensive touchdowns. Most unrealistic play of the game - The Michigan defense, completely unable to stop any part of the Illinois offense, somehow registers a safety following one of the Wolverines' four red zone turnovers. Player of the game - Illinois CB No. 5. He helped keep Michigan QB No. 16 in check with two interceptions, including a 101-yard TD return. PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES: Illinois head coach Jeff Philips: If I could point to one thing that Michi- gan couldn't do well, it would be play- ing offense. Frankly, I can't believe the Wolverines scored at all ... If I had to rate Coach Horn's perform- ance this game using a five-star sys- tem, I would give him one star.
