Situated between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas,
just about where Lake Huron meets Lake Michigan, is
a place where horses and bikes remain the only major
modes of transportation, and visitors are practically
guaranteed to gain at least a couple of pounds before

leaving.

months, more than one million tourists take the ferry
ride past the Mackinac Bridge to the small island
famous for its fudge. As the weather grows cooler,
there is a dramatic decrease in the tourist population.
Those who do visit after the summer rush are therefore
able to enjoy a much less hectic atmosphere -one that
allows for a greater appreciation of the beauty that
attracted those first few tourists many years ago.
