*NAKED MILE
Continued from Page 1A
-said.
'Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Diane Brown
said there is nothing the University can do about people
videotaping the event.
"This is taking place out in the public," Brown said.
"The Internet laws have not caught up with other forms
of the media in terms of pornography and exploitation
*laws."
In addition, any students attempting to block a photogra-
pher or take the photographer's equipment run the added
risk of being arrested for assault.
"if they are observed by a police officer engaging in an
assault or hitting that person's camera, that could be consid-
ered an assault against that photographer," Brown said.
"They have their own rights too."
Steele said he will not be attending the Naked Mile
this year but added that his website can run itself
"People contact us about it. I'm sure that somebody
will send us pictures of the event," Steele said.

BREAK
Continued from Page IA
percent of LSA students said they
would support a schedule change to
accommodate a fall break.
"Another Thanksgiving break would
be great," LSA junior Libby Scott
said.
Other students said they would pre-
fer not to have a break if it brought
along consequences such as added
days at the beginning or end of the
term.
"We could definitely use time off
in the fall, but students tend to be
decidedly less motivated after spring
break," said LSA freshman Laura
Barnes.
Calendars are already set through
Fall 2002, so if approved, the break
would be implemented in Fall 2003.

MENINGITIS
Continued from Page 1A
the Meningococcus bacteria, the chance
of contracting viral meningitis does not
increase in mass-living situations such as
residence halls or fraternity and sorority
houses.
"The viral meningitis disease is much
less dangerous (than bacterial meningi-
tis), though it makes people feel quite ill.
It's uncommon for it to be fatal," Win-
field said. "There is a fourfold increase in
the incidence of bacterial meningitis in
freshmen living in residence halls."
The student, who asked that his name
not be printed, said he does not know if
anyone he knows has viral meningitis, but
recommends anyone experiencing persis-
tent flu symptoms to be checked out at
the hospital.
Jon Russell, an LSA ,junior who lives

with the student in a fraternity house on
campus, said members of the house went
to the hospital after the student was diag-
nosed to make sure they had not contract-
ed the disease.
"We haven't been tested. They basically
told us there's nothing we can do. It's
spread through the air," Russell said.
Russell said the doctors and nurses at
University Hospitals said the fraternity
members would have to wait to see if they
developed symptoms of meningitis.
Winfield said UHS has offered a vac-
cine for bacterial meningitis, but a vac-
cine for viral meningitis is not available.
"There is no vaccine (for viral meningi-
tis). Bacterial meningitis is caused by
Meningococcus which is much mnore seri-
ous. We don't strongly encourage, but we
offer (a vaccine for bacterial meningitis).
Vaccine programs have been offered in
the fall," Winfield said.
