This event, which supports light- ing up and having a good time will also bring business for local Ann Arbor shops. Shiva Moon, a shop on the cor- ner of Maynard and East Williams streets, which specializes in psychedel- ic garb and acessories caters to Hash Bashers. The Michigan Daily asked the owner of Shiva Moon, 21-year-old Tanya Hosking for her take on the upcoming smoke-filled shenanigans of Saturday. The Michigan Daily: How long have you been in Ann Arbor? Tanya Hosking: The store has been here five years and this is our one year anniversery for Hash Bash. TMD: How did you decide to open up your business? TH: My brother started it five years ago when he was 25 and I was 16. It was something we both wanted to do. TMD: Do you do a lot of business during Hash Bash? TH: Hash Bash is a big day for us. We do more business on Hash Bash than the entire month of Christmas. TMD: Do you sell more bongs or bowls? TH: We sell more bowls than bongs, but the glass hand pipes are also very April 5th's Featured Restaurant Star Buffet )elicious Chinese Restaurant with quality food- Dine-In or Take out! TMD: What's the most expensive piece in the store? TH: A $550 dichroic bubbler, which is a hand held water pipe. TMD: Where do most of your pipes come from? TH: The glass pieces come out of Ann Arbor from local artists. TMD: There are other "head shops" like this one in Ann Arbor, how is your store different? TH: This is a family-run business. We try to make our customers feel com- fortable with our fun, laid back atmos- phere. We make a big effort to get to know our customers. TMD: What advice would you give to other people who want to start a busi- ness? TH: It's important to find your niche and find some sort of flow. TMD: Are your customers mostly college students? TH: We get a huge variety of cus- tomers. We get a good amount of col- lege students and older people. There are younger people who come in here to buy the clothes, tapestries and incense. TMD: What other kinds of merchan- dise do you carry in your store besides the bongs and bowls? TH: We carry tapestries from the company Space Tribe. They glow in black light. Also, people come to the store for the music - psychedelic trance. My brother owns his own music company called Spun Records, which features this kind of music. Its newer to this area and people don't really know about it. TMD: What time are you going to be open on Saturday? TH: I'll get to the store around 7:30 am and stay open until the streets are empty. TMD: What's your advice on how to have a good Hash Bash? TH: Everybody should keep a smile on their face. reading from his newly published col- lection of short stories. Shaman Drum. 8 o.m.
