Nebraska-Omaha is in its second year of CCHA play. Win or lose, the important thing for ichigan hockey's most loyal fans was simply to celebrate a good time together while watch- ing the sport they love. When asked if it would be an early night, McKenzie laughed. 'There'snever an early night on the road," he said. ORTMEYER, HILBERT UPDATES: Injured winger Jed Ortmeyer received a second opin- ion on his injured right knee while in his home- town Omaha this weekend. According to Ortmeyer, the doctor echoed the sentiment of the first opinion - stay off the ice. Ortmeyer plans to weigh his options in the coming week before deciding on whether to ' undergo season-ending surgery. Berenson said he hasn't spoken to Ortmeyer on the doctor's verdict, but believes the news is not much better than was originally believed. "I think Jed wanted to get the opinion, think about it and talk to his family;" Berenson said. "I can't tell you a decision has been made, but I think it's going in the direction" of Ortmeyer sitting out the remainder of the season. Ortmeyer tore his anterior cruciate ligament on Jan. 23 against Notre Dame. Andy Hilbert left the ice early in practice yesterday, with a tightened hip courtesy of a check he took in front of the Michigan bench on Friday night. Berenson urged Hilbert not to chance it if it started to act up in practice. "I told him to get off the ice if he started favoring it," Berenson said. "He should be ready for the weekend" against Northern Michigan. USCHO TOP 10 As of Feb. 5, 2001 From www.uscho.com Team Record PVS 1. Michigan State (28) 22-3-4 1 2. Boston College (9) 20-6-1 2 3. BIG TEN Continued from Page 10 far as winning the regular season title. "There is no question thait whoev- er wins the game has a leg up on the other people," Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said. ANOTHER ONE BITES TIE DUST: With nine straight losses to start the Big Ten season, Northwestern finds itself not just at the bottomn of the Big Ten again but also wfthout a conference win since March 3, 1999 when it beat Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. The pressure is mounting on Carmody and his players to get that first win. We are "0-9 right now and vwith no wins last year," Carmody said. "We are just trying to see if we can break through somehow." The pressure is also on the Wildcats' Big Ten opponents not to be the first team to give them a con- ference win in over a year and a half. Next on the list is 3-6 Minnesota. "Northwestern is going to win games in this league. It's just a mat- ter of time," Minnesota coach Dan Monson said. "Hopefully it won't be (tonight)." Stone Cold: XFL stuns the competition NEW YORK (AP) - The XFL and NBC must be X-cited about the TV rating for the fledgling football league's debut broadcast. Mixing guerrilla television tactics and salacious shots of scantily clad cheerleaders with mediocre on-field action, the XFL's inaugural broad- cast drew a preliminary overnight rating of 10.3 with a 17 share. That means an average of 10.3 percent of TV homes in the United States were tuned in at any given moment Saturday night for the game between the Las Vegas Outlaws and the New York/New Jersey Hitmen. The rating gave NBC a prime-time victory over the other networks Saturday and is more than double what advertisers were told to expect for the league. By comparison, Game 1 of last year's World Series drew a 14.0 overnight rating on a Saturday night for Fox.
