C- Little Nicky It's a little known fact that this film was originally titled "Little Pookie" and was to be directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. It was going to be a very simple story about a little cat who has a bad reaction to some homemade cookies. Simple stuff. but lately simple sells. Then Anderson got a big head and went off and made "Magnolia." and lit- tle Pookie pussy cat turned into "Little Nicky." Asshoie. Meet the Parents Few people know this but Robert De Niro was initially called in to play the Ben Stiller part with Bob Hope on the short list of actors that producers were considering for the role that eventually went to De Niro. But after meeting with Bobby D, the vision of the film shifted towards a younger set and 30-35 years were shaved from each of the character's lives. Kind of a bitch for whoever was writing it, but I think that all would agree that it was the best decision in the long run. At Showcase: 12:15, 2:40, 5:05, 7:20, 7:50. 9:35, 11:35 (Fri. & Sat.). At State: 2 (Sat. & Sun.), 5 (Sat. & Sun.), 7:15, 9:30. So it's a chilly Friday night and there is not much to do in Ann Arbor. Luckily, Dej Vu is having "Exotie Celcbrities" just few miles away in Ypsilanti. Ypsilanti (and yes, for you out-of-staters. the Y is pronounced like an I) is not only home to, the loely [Ml campus but it also has one of the few full- nudity strip clubs in the area. "Nudie bars" like this one are popular; however, they can discon- cert those who attend them, as well as those who do not. LSA sophomore Jake Lessem disagrecs with the premise of strip clubs like Deja Vu. "Is the idea of a beautiful woman dancing around naked appealing? Of course" he said. "But they're being paid to stand up there. impersonal commodities. That's not appeal- i114." Moe Worsley, a LSA sophomore, thinks that men head to Deja VU because "they want to see what they can't hare. It sort of fulfills our fantasies." Chris, a clerk in the Deja Vu boutique gift shop who asked that his last name not be used, said about 65 percent of the club's clientele is collece students. Considering that the cover is S I I-12, and that bever- ages and other ... purchases are not included, this could amount to a huge extraction from the menial bud et. or lack thereof, that most collcie students succumb to. Despite the cost. young customers are drawn to the no-strings attached atmosphere. "We live in a society wihere relationships are sup- posed to be monogamous," Chis said. ":There's a prevalent fear of cheating. In a place like this, the concept of cheating is"~ taken away because theie is no romantic interaction between the (irls that work here and the cus- tomers that come in.He said that theme ighft and " amateur night' are both popu- lar. "''When you really come down to it, the bare root of the situation is. lust Chris said. Freshman Mike Kuncewich said he believes hormones increase male inter- est in strip clubs. "Guys have a lot of sex- ual tension.'' le said. "If there:s a Cuy who doesn't cet all the sex that he wants, then why not go? Testosterone causes a need for that.' LSA freshman Cvnthia Kurzwell concurs. "You can't blame guys for doing what their hormones cause them to do," she said. Kinesiology sophomore Antron Hughes said that he has been to what's commonly referred to as "The Vu" a couple of times. His friends go there "because they're bored, horny or just desperate." Hughes said. "Evervbody should get a chance to ,o. Hughes recalls the "funniest thing ever at 'The Vu' was when a boyfriend brought his girlfriend in for a couples lap dance -some people are just so sick." At Dej ! Vu. customers have the option of a topless lap-dance (SI0), nudie lap-dance (S20), or a trip to the "Fantasy Booth" (prices vary). lere the men can live out their wildest inhibitions with a mere sheet of plexi-glass separating them from a naked woman. The temptations of strip clubs don't worry LSA freshman Tiffany Wade. She has a different perspec- tive; she said strip clubs present no competition for her when it comes to her boyfriend's attention. "Wherever he goes to get whatever lie wants, as long as he comes back and gives it to me, then I don't care," she laughed. It seems that the people who really know what's coin on are the strippers. These girls, whose ages range from 18 to 30, can expect to make at least S100 a niht, with a record earning of SI,400. An estimated 30 of the 41 dancers at Deja Vu are curtrentlv attending col- C'hris poiiits out that, 'When 'ou're working in a place like this, you realize that places like this should- n't have to exist. Nudity and sexu- ality are now deemed as beinc dirty. somethiii only a deviant would enjoy. I thmik that's strapie. When it comes s downii to it, evervone is in search of some titillation, Vou know, excitement," Chris said. Others disagree that strip clubs should be uewed as acceptable. "They're not moral. but it's not our job to dictate what is," Huglhes said. The public is legally allowed into clubs at age 18. Some view it as a rite of passage for an 18- vear-old boy to get a lap dance. LSA freshian Bei Whetsell said, "I r ,S ( R,,pI e . C .
