"I absolutely think that it's critical for what the University ying to do for you as students to have a clear voice," er said. "I want you to know how supportive I am of his kind of work." tniversity students will not be the only ones attending the 10 days of events, which include panel discussions and a rally Thursday. Students from the BAMN chapter at Michigan State Uni- versity are expected to attend the rally along with concerned students from University of Michigan at Flint and Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan univer- sities, Curtin said. Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti high school stu- dents also are expected. iodfrey Dillard, a University graduate and lawyer for the d ent intervenors in the LSA lawsuit, said that based on expert and statistical analysis of 1995 admissions data the case should be a cinch for the University. Dillard said almost 1,300 white students were accepted with lower grade point averages and standardized test scores than one of the students suing the University. "We believe the case will be won based on our facts, not on the class of discrimination," Dillard said. As last night's meeting came to a close, a voice of oppo- sition sparked a interactive debate between students and the lawyers. Justin Shibow, a Rackham graduate student, said he is liberal and opposed to affirmative action, but his beliefs do not make him a racist. In fact, many liberals are against affirmative action, par- ticularly because they are liberals," Shibow said. Dillard praised Shibow for attending the meeting and articulately stating his view, although he directed him to look at the University's admissions statistics and not at that philosophical perspective. Affirmative Action 102 is a follow-up to a similar series of events in 1997 known as Affirmative Action 101. It is organized by the Peace and Justice Commission of MSA with support from student and community groups. DON'T SLEEP MUCH.? LSES on campus. University Bartending!
