L2A --The Michigan Daisy - Thursday. September 21. 2000 Can UCLA avoid Ducky upsets By Seth Klempner For the Daily A month ago the Pac-10 had two teams in the top 25. Four weeks later, not two but three Pac-10 teams are in the top ten. UCLA, Washington and Southern Cal entered the top ten with wins over Across the Michigan, Miami TO P 25 ( F l a . ) a n d Colorado. These wins signal the Pac-10's return to legiti- macy after several disappointing years and four consecutive Rose Bowl loses. No.6 UCLA (3-0) ar OREGON (2-1): After going undefeated through a tough nonconference schedule that featured wins over two teams ranked third in the nation - Michigan and Alabama - the sixth-ranked Bruins start there confer- ence schedule against Oregon. UCLA will have to be careful not to take Oregon lightly. The Ducks played well against a depleted Wisconsin team two weeks ago. Oregon has a strong offense this year, leading the Pac-10 in scoring average (33.7 points per game) and total yards with over 450 yards per game. It has also given up only three sacks in three games played. Meanwhile, UCLA lost one of the best defensive linemen in the country and a leader of their defense to injury in Kenyon Coleman. Starting quarterback Ryan McCann, who threw 2 touch- downs passes in the second half against Michigan, feels confident even with the loss of Coleman. He stated after the Michigan game that UCLA deserved to be first in the nation. That belief will change this weekend.
