From the action on the field to the flwing marshmnallows in the stands. the Big House becomes the center of life in Ann Arbo' each fall, everv.time the Hoiverines take the fiel." And so read the introduction to the first edition of Football Saturday, published in 1997. Merely freshmen during that memorable season, your newest cast of Daily football writers represents the last tic to those student-journalists who had the courage to innovate. This publication has survived infancy, and is on its way to a second generation of readers and writers. Still the best part of Football Saturday? As our mentors would say: Easy. All the writers, photographers and producers are students -just like the players on the pages ahead. 3-5 Big Ten, 6-6 overall did not play in a bowl game unranked after 1999 1999 results: Number-crunching: Aug. 28 Miami (Fla.) 23, Ohio State 12 Big Ten Sept. 11 O04o1STATE 42. It was the first season since 1988, coach John Cooper's first in Columbus, that Ohio State would suffer the indigni- ty of missing bowl season. Combine the lack of a bowl with the loss in Ann Arbor, and Michigan drivers likely paid a stiffer penalty for speeding on the Ohio Turnpike than in any other offseason. Thankfully. Buckeyes fans can rily on the one thing that keeps them sane every fall - their ,hot-tern memories. Last year was last year, and this year is a new chance. "it seems like this season has taken for- ever to get here," starting quarterback Steve Bellisari told the Columbus Dispatch. I've been wanting to erase some of the things that happened last year. The only way to do that is by playing." Ohio State faces the task of replacing multi-year starters at crucial:positions. Signs point to improvement, but not a return to 10-vin status. Bellisari has quite a skilled receiving corps at his disposal, including seniors Reggie Germany and Ken-Yon Rambo. r r r 1 Dave Terrell 2 Cato June 3 Todd Howard 4 Marquise Walker 4 Tommy Jones 5 James Whitley 6 Victor Hobson 7 Drew Henson 8 Walter Cross 9 Tyrece Butler 12 Brandon Williams 12 Mike Kaselitz 13 Larry Stevens 13 Ryan Smalls 14 Andy Mignery 14 Dan Williams WR FS CB WR WR CB LB QB RB WR CB QB LB CB QB CB 15 DeWayne Patmon SS 15 Travis DeMeesterTE 16 John Navarre QB 17 Larry Foote LB 17 Sean Cassidy QB 18 Jermaine Gonzales QB 18 Elton Jones LB 19 Ronald Bellamy WR 21 Jeremy LeSueur CB 22 Jon Shaw S 22 Ross Kesler WR 23 Cory Sargent P 23 Chris Perry RB 24 Charles Drake DB 25 Hayden Epstein PK 25 Michael Manning CB 26 Julius Curry SS 27 Calvin Bell WR 28 Anthony Jordan LB 28 Scott Panique FB 29 Ryan Beard RB 29 Aaron Richards WR 30 Tad Van Pelt DB 31 Zia Combs CB 32 Anthony Thomas RB 32 Kolby Wells LB 33 Brent Cummings WR 33 Charles Young WR 34 Justin Fargas RB 34 Phil Brabbs PK 35 B.J.
