Cooper still has M' monkey on back MATCHUPS A:., Continued from Page 3F provide offensive stability while Cooper sorted out his quarterback quandry (more to come on that topic soon). Instead, he's just been disappointing. The Buckeye Blur, as Ohio State's web site likes to tout the senior, hasn't been much more than a blur on the stats page, averaging 78.2 yards per game. He's had a habit of doing disappearing acts on big plays and in big games. And he's going up against a defense that thrives on stopping the run. The Wolverines notched a season-salvaging upset over Penn State last week largely because they held the Nittany Lions to just seven yards rushing. Advantage: Michigan OHIO STATE PASSING OFFENSE VERSUS MICHIGAN PASSING DEFENSE: Bellisari and Moherman. Moherman and Bellisari. Mohersari and Bellerman. Mix and match them any way you want, and it still comes down to this: When Cooper must choose between Steve Bellisari and Austin Moherman, he is choosing between two sub-par signal callers. Earlier this season, Cooper said that the reason so many teams across the country were using two-quarterback sys- tems is because its been so successful at Ohio State. If that logic is true - which it isn't - don't be surprised to see teams using a new-fangled, no-QB system next season. Bellisari has seen most of the plays, but Moherman has played a significant amount Neither has completed half of their passes and they've combined for 12 interceptions and 12 touchdowns. In fact, a quick look at the Buckeyes stat DANA LNNANE/Daily Michigan linebacker Dhani Jones faces a struggling Ohio State offense today. Unlike last year's machine-like offense, this year's unit has been inconsistent. sheet shows that their most effective passer has been Wiley, who's completed all four passes on halfback option plays for 102 yards and a touchdown. But whoever is throwing the ball - Bellisari, Moherman or Wiley - will have an advantage: He's throwing on Michigan's secondary. The Wolverines' defensive backs have struggled all year. Even in Michigan's victory last week, Penn State threw at will in the second half after abandoning the run, and it was almost enough to win the game. With the Buckeyes' receivers - Ken- Yon Rambo and Reggie Germany are two of the best in the Big Ten -- this matchup shouldn't be close. But because of who's throwing to them, it is. Advantage: Michigan (barely) SPECIAL TEAMS: DiAllo Johnson has emerged as a bona-fide punt returner, at least compared to Marcus Knight. Johnson had a key return late in the game against Penn State to set up Michigan's final touchdown. Clements does the job for the Buckeyes - he has- n't broken one yet, but he's averaging close to 10 yards and has come close. Both teams have good kickers and punters, although for Michigan, they happen to be the same man. Advantage: Ohio State " ' :::, k Last year, the Buckeyes beat Michigan. But is the monkey really off their back? No Ohio State has plenty of talent, but most of it is young talent. Next year, the Buckeyes could be a force. This year, they're not. Avoiding the humiliation, isn't enough; Michigan will end Ohio State's season a little earlier than expected. Michigan 34, Ohio State 21 Av
